Early life

Costa was born in Bombay (now Mumbai) to a Goan father and a Portuguese mother. His family is Catholic. [4] [5]

Career

He started his career in 2003 by designing both men and women's wear, though he gradually shifted his focus to menswear. [5] He opened his flagship store in 2011 in Khar West in Mumbai. [6] [7]

Between 2008 and 2011, Costa's menswear collections were curated for a number of fashion shows across India and the Middle East, such as Dubai International Fashion Week, [8] Lakme Fashion Week [9] and Van Heusen Men's Week. [10]

With Troy Costa's 'The Great Gatsby Collection' that showcased his Winter 2013 ensemble at Lakme Fashion Week 2013, he introduced a line of formal coats and suits paired with luxury cotton jeans and formal plain shirts with his interpretation of the decadence, idealism, and quixotic charm that defined the time [11] At the 2013 autumn-winter Lakme Fashion Week, he received acclaim for his menswear. [12] [13] In 2014, the then-newly appointed PM, Narendra Modi, appointed Costa to change his wardrobe ahead of his first important international visit to the BRICS summit in Brazil and subsequent US visit. [14] [15]

In 2015, he was listed by Hindustan Times as "Mumbai's Most Stylish". [16]
