Doswell is an unincorporated community in Hanover County in the Central Region of the U.S. Commonwealth of Virginia. Originally called Hanover Junction, it was located on the Virginia Central Railroad at a crossing of the Richmond, Fredericksburg and Potomac Railroad, a north–south route. Both railroads are now owned by CSX Transportation, although the former Virginia Central line is leased to a short-line carrier, Buckingham Branch Railroad. The area near the Doswell train station is a popular train-watching site for railfans.
Liberty High School is one of the three high schools in Bedford County, Virginia. Liberty High School opened in 1964. Its mascot is the "Minuteman." School colors are red, white and navy blue. The school serves students from Villamont, Thaxton, Montvale, Big Island and Bedford. Conicville was formerly known as Cabin Hill, as it was a cluster of approximately 22 homes, Christ Church and several, now closed, businesses, and is located at the northeast end of the Cabin Hill ridge that runs parallel to and just east of Swover Creek and State Route 42, from Hudson Crossroads, at SR 42 and CR 720 - Crooked Run Road. The US Geological Survey notes a Bench Mark elevation of 1256 feet, just south of the SR 42 / CR 703 intersection. Latitude 38.83 and longitude -78.69.
