Tufts Pass ( 69°25′S70°35′W / 69.417°S 70.583°W ) is a pass extending in an east–west direction between the Rouen Mountains and the Elgar Uplands in the north part of Alexander Island, Antarctica. The mountain pass was probably first sighted from the air and roughly mapped by the British Graham Land Expedition in 1937. Remapped from air photos taken by the Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition in 1947–48, by Searle of the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey in 1960. Named by the RARE for Tufts University, Medford, Massachusetts, United States, where Dr. Robert Nichols was head of the geology department before joining the RARE.

The Usarp Mountains are a major Antarctic mountain range, lying west of the Rennick Glacier and trending north to south for about 190 kilometres (118 mi). The feature is bounded to the north by Pryor Glacier and the Wilson Hills.
The Douglas Range is a sharp-crested range, with peaks rising to 3,000 metres, extending 120 km (75 mi) in a northwest–southeast direction from Mount Nicholas to Mount Edred and forming a steep east escarpment of Alexander Island within the British Antarctic Territory, overlooking the north part of George VI Sound.
The LeMay Range is a mountain range 40 nautical miles (70 km) long with peaks rising to 2,000 metres (6,600 ft), extending in a northwest–southeast direction from Snick Pass to the north side of Uranus Glacier in the central portion of Alexander Island, Antarctica. It was first seen from the air by Lincoln Ellsworth on November 23, 1935, and the north and east portions mapped from photos obtained on that flight by W.L.G. Joerg. Later, it was resighted from the air by the Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition (RARE), 1947–48, and named by Finn Ronne for General Curtis LeMay, Deputy Chief of Air Staff for Research and Development of the then United States Army Air Forces, which furnished equipment for the expedition. The range was remapped in detail from RARE photos by D. Searle of the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey in 1960.
The Porthos Range is the second range south in the Prince Charles Mountains of Antarctica, extending for about 30 miles in an east-to-west direction between Scylla Glacier and Charybdis Glacier. First visited in December 1956 by the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions (ANARE) southern party under W.G. Bewsher (1956-57) and named after Porthos, a character in Alexandre Dumas, père's novel The Three Musketeers, the most popular book read on the southern journey.
Wubbold Glacier is a steeply inclined glacier, 8 nautical miles (15 km) long, flowing south from the Havre Mountains, situated in the northern portion of Alexander Island, Antarctica. The glacier drains the north, west and southwest slopes of Mount Pontida, and flows into Lazarev Bay north of Mount Holt. It was photographed from the air by Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition in 1947 and was mapped from the photographs by Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey in 1960. Named by Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names for Commander J.H. Wubbold, USCG, commanding officer, USCGC Northwind, U.S. Navy Operation Deepfreeze, 1977.
Care Heights are a group of mostly ice-covered peaks and ridges, rising to about 1,500 metres (4,900 ft) north of Tufts Pass and forming the southern end of the Rouen Mountains, northern Alexander Island, Antarctica. The feature was photographed from the air by the Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition, 1947–48, and was mapped from these photographs by D. Searle of the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey, 1960. Further delineation was made from U.S. Navy aerial photographs taken 1966–67 and from U.S. Landsat imagery taken January 1974. The heights were named by the UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee in 1977 after Bernard W. Care, British Antarctic Survey geologist, who worked at Stonington Island, 1973–75; Adelaide Island and north Alexander Island, 1975–76 and 1976–77.
The Colbert Mountains are a group of isolated mountains with several rounded snow-covered summits, the highest at 1,500 metres (4,900 ft), overlooking Handel Ice Piedmont between Haydn Inlet and Schubert Inlet in the west central part of Alexander Island. It was first seen and photographed from a distance by Lincoln Ellsworth on his trans-Antarctic flight of November 23, 1935, and partially mapped from these photos by W.L.G. Joerg. It was resighted and photographed from the air by the United States Antarctic Service, 1939–41, and by the Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition (RARE) 1947–48, under Finn Ronne, who named it for R. Admiral Leo O. Colbert, head of the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey, which furnished equipment for the expedition. It was remapped in detail from RARE air photos by D. Searle of the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey in 1960.
Nichols Snowfield is a snowfield, 22 nautical miles (41 km) long and 8 nautical miles (15 km) wide, bounded by the Rouen Mountains and Elgar Uplands to the east and Lassus Mountains to the west, in the north part of Alexander Island, Antarctica. The snowfield was first sighted from the air and roughly mapped by the British Graham Land Expedition (BGLE) in 1937. Mapped in detail from air photos taken by the Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition (RARE), 1947–48, by Searle of the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey (FIDS) in 1960. Named by the RARE for Dr. Robert L. Nichols, head of the Department of Geology, Tufts University, and senior scientist of the Ronne expedition.
Whistle Pass is a snow pass at about 1,050 m at the head of Sullivan Glacier in north Alexander Island, Antarctica. The pass trends in a NE-SW direction and provides access to and from the upper part of Hampton Glacier. So named by British Antarctic Survey in 1977, because the pass falls away steeply to the southwest between high cliffs, so that the descent by sledge is fast and exhilarating as suggested by the name.
Grotto Glacier is a glacier on the east coast of Alexander Island, Antarctica, which flows east into George VI Sound between Belemnite Point and Ablation Point. It is 46 km (29 mi) long, 6 km (4 mi) wide where it emerges from the coastal mountains, and 13 km (8.1 mi) wide at its mouth. It was first photographed from the air on 23 November 1935, by Lincoln Ellsworth and mapped from these photographs by W.L.G. Joerg. It was roughly surveyed in 1936 by the British Graham Land Expedition and resurveyed in 1949 by the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey (FIDS). The glacier was so named by the FIDS because a sledge dog was rescued from a grotto-like crevasse in the glacier.
Palestrina Glacier is a glacier lying in the northern portion of Alexander Island, Antarctica, 11 nautical miles (20 km) long and 8 nautical miles (15 km) wide, flowing west from Nichols Snowfield into Lazarev Bay. The glacier was mapped from air photos taken by the Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition (RARE), 1947–48, by Derek J.H. Searle of the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey (FIDS) in 1960. Named by the United Kingdom Antarctic Place-Names Committee (UK-APC) for Giovanni da Palestrina (1525–1594), Italian composer.
Mount Edred is a prominent ice-covered mountain, 2,195 metres (7,200 ft) high, which stands 10 nautical miles (19 km) inland from George VI Sound, lies about 12 miles (19 km) north of Galileo Cliffs, and marks the southern limit of the Douglas Range on Alexander Island, Antarctica. It was first photographed from the air on November 23, 1935 by Lincoln Ellsworth and mapped from these photos by W.L.G. Joerg. Its east side was roughly surveyed in 1936 by the British Graham Land Expedition and resurveyed in 1949 by the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey (FIDS). It was named by the FIDS for Edred, a Saxon king of England in the 10th century. The west face of the mountain was mapped from air photos taken by the Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition, 1947–48, by D. Searle of the FIDS in 1960. Mount Edred is the ninth highest peak of Alexander Island, succeeded by Mount Calais and proceeded by Mount Spivey.
The Eland Mountains are a range of mountains which rise above 2,440 metres (8,000 ft) and extend about 20 nautical miles (40 km) in a northeast–southwest direction along the south side of Clifford Glacier, 5 nautical miles (9 km) northeast of the Clark Hills on the east coast of Palmer Land. The mountains were discovered in 1936 by the British Graham Land Expedition, and they appear in aerial photographs taken by the United States Antarctic Service in September 1940. During 1947 they were photographed from the air by members of the Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition, who in conjunction with the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey (FIDS), charted them from the ground. The name Eland, Lady Clifford's maiden name, was given in 1952 by Sir Miles Clifford, Governor of the Falkland Islands, at the request of members of the FIDS staff.
The Elgar Uplands are uplands rising to 1,900 metres (6,200 ft), between Tufts Pass to the north and Sullivan Glacier to the south, in the northern part of Alexander Island, Antarctica. They were first photographed from the air and roughly mapped by the British Graham Land Expedition in 1937. They were remapped from air photos taken by the Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition, 1947–48, by D. Searle of the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey in 1960, and from U.S. Landsat imagery of February, 1975. They were named by the UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee after Sir Edward Elgar, the English composer (1857-1934).
Paulus Glacier is a glacier west of Mount Cupola, flowing southeast from Rouen Mountains into Hampton Glacier, north Alexander Island, Antarctica. Photographed from the air by Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition (RARE), 1947–48, and mapped from the air photographs by D. Searle of Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey (FIDS), 1960. Named by Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN) after Lieutenant Commander John F. Paulus, U.S. Navy, LC-130 aircraft commander, Squadron VXE-6, U.S. Navy Operation Deepfreeze, 1969 and 1970.
Pearson Spur is a spur extending southeast from Elgar Uplands toward the head of Sibelius Glacier, situated in the northern portion of Alexander Island, Antarctica. Photographed from the air by Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition (RARE) in 1947, roughly mapped from air photographs by Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey (FIDS) in 1959, and surveyed by British Antarctic Survey (BAS), 1973–77. Named by United Kingdom Antarctic Place-Names Committee (UK-APC) in 1980 after Martin Robert Pearson, BAS glaciologist, 1970–73, who worked on Alexander Island, in years 1971 and 1972.
Snick Pass is a narrow mountain pass lying between the Douglas Range and the LeMay Range, leading from Grotto Glacier to Purcell Snowfield in the central portion of Alexander Island, Antarctica. The feature was first mapped from air photos obtained by the Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition in 1947–48, by Searle of the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey in 1960. The name given by the United Kingdom Antarctic Place-Names Committee is descriptive, a snick being a small cut or incision.
The Lassus Mountains are a large group of mountains, 15 nautical miles (28 km) long and 3 nautical miles (6 km) wide, rising to 2,100 metres (6,900 ft) and extending south from Palestrina Glacier in the northwest part of Alexander Island, Antarctica. They overlook Lazarev Bay and a few minor islands within the bay such as Dint Island and Umber Island; Haydn Inlet lies to the south while the Havre Mountains lie immediately north.
Lewis Point is a point at the south side of the mouth of Anthony Glacier, on the east coast of Palmer Land, Antarctica. It is marked by rocky exposures on its north side and is surmounted by an ice-covered dome, 510 metres (1,670 ft) high. The point was photographed from the air by the United States Antarctic Service in 1940. During 1947 it was photographed from the air by the Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition (RARE) under Finn Ronne, who in conjunction with the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey charted it from the ground. It was named by Ronne for Colonel Richard L. Lewis of the Army Quartermaster Corps, which furnished field equipment and clothing to the RARE for testing purposes.
