The Party of European Socialists (PES) is a social democratic and progressive European political party.
In politics,a red–green alliance or red–green coalition is an alliance of "red" parties with "green" parties. The alliance is often based on common left political views,especially a shared distrust of corporate or capitalist institutions. While the "red" social-democratic parties tend to focus on the effects of capitalism on the working class,the "green" environmentalist parties tend to focus on the environmental effects of capitalism.

Karl Hjalmar Branting was a Swedish politician who was the leader of the Swedish Social Democratic Party (SAP) from 1907 until his death in 1925,and three times Prime Minister of Sweden. When Branting came to power in 1920,he was the first Social Democratic Prime Minister of Sweden. When taking office for a second term after the general election of 1921,he became the first democratic socialist head of government in Western Europe elected under universal suffrage. An early supporter of modern social democracy and democratic socialism,he led the SAP through a transformation from a radical socialist movement to Sweden's dominant party;the Social Democrats have been Sweden's largest party in every election since 1914,and formed government for 44 continuous years from 1932 to 1976.
Kristin Halvorsen is a Norwegian politician of the Socialist Left Party. She served as Minister of Finance from 2005 to 2009 and as Minister of Education from 2009 to 2013. She also served as the party's leader from 1997 to 2012 and a member of parliament representing Oslo,from 1989 to 2013.

On 5–17 June 1969,an International Meeting of Communist and Workers Parties was held in Moscow. The meeting occurred in the aftermath of the Sino-Soviet split and the Soviet intervention in Czechoslovakia. The preceding international meeting,held in Moscow in 1960,had been dominated by disputes between the Communist Party of the Soviet Union on one hand and the Communist Party of China and the Party of Labour of Albania on the other. By this time the split between the two poles had been finalized. Pro-Chinese elements were absent from this event. However the phenomenon of Eurocommunism had begun to emerge,which was notable amongst some of the delegations present.
