UCT Radio is a campus radio station operated by students of the University of Cape Town (UCT) in Cape Town, South Africa. UCT Radio broadcasts on the online at radio.uct.ac.za. The station broadcasts from the main Upper Campus in the Southern Suburbs.
As a student-run, campus-community station, our programming reflects the culture, ethos and diversity of campus life, following a cross-genre approach to music and playing 60% of South African music. [1]
Dan Corder (5FM Presenter) Mark Gillman (Former 5FM presenter), Randall Abrahams (Former Idols SA judge), Station Director Russell Warner (transformed the station into a community broadcaster and consequently obtained the first legal and current licence to broadcast on the FM 104.5 frequency using a 20 W transmitter). For the first time UCT Radio was a fully fledged radio station as opposed to a wired public address system (there was a history of the occasional pirate wireless broadcast from time to time until authorities would shut it down. Suga (Good Hope FM/MC at 46664 events), Bongani Njoli (e.tv) and Natalie Bekker (P4/Free Spirit/Top Billing presenter). [2]
Cam FM is a student-run radio station at the University of Cambridge and Anglia Ruskin University. The station broadcasts online and has an FM frequency of 97.2 MHz. The station opened studios at Anglia Ruskin University and Fitzwilliam College and started broadcasting in 2012 from these locations after having spent its first 32 years located in Churchill College. Cam FM once held the world record for the longest team broadcast marathon, at 76 hours, and following the significant technical overhaul as a result of the two new studios in 2012, provided the first-ever broadcast media coverage of the Oxford vs Cambridge Women's Boat Race from Dorney Lake, as well as live outside broadcasts from Newmarket Races and the Varsity Ski Trip.
Campus radio is a type of radio station that is run by the students of a college, university or other educational institution. Demon FM is a student radio station based at De Montfort University in Leicester, England. The station broadcasts online during term time. It was established in 1995 by the Communications Officer of the time, Rob Martin. The first licensed broadcast was on 106.4 FM from 29 September 1995 to 26 October 1995 and the second broadcast was on 106.2 FM from 22 April 1996 to 19 May 1996. Demon FM continued to broadcast on Restricted Service Licences until 2008 with the last of the RSL broadcasts taking place on 97.5FM. Demon FM finished their 26th and final RSL on 30 November 2008.
CIUT-FM is a campus and community radio station owned and operated by the University of Toronto. The station broadcasts live and continuously from Toronto on the 89.5 FM frequency. Programming can also be heard nationally via channel 826 on Shaw Direct, and over the internet via the CIUT website. The station is financially supported by donations and an undergraduate student levy. CIUT-FM also broadcasts a Punjabi and Urdu language station, Sur Sagar Radio on a Subsidiary Communications Multiplex Operation frequency.
