Udara Palliyaguruge is a Sri Lankan film director in Sinhala cinema and the director of Super Six, which premiered on 17 May 2012. A Hindi version of Super Six also premiered simultaneously in Mumbai, India.

Early life and career

He was born into a family of two as the youngest child.

Udara was involved in stage drama at Gurukula College, Kelaniya and acted in dramas such as Oedipus (Sinhalese translation), Ratnawali and No Kabuki plays (Sinhala translation). Later he was involved in the National Theatre as a stage manager, costume designer and actor in productions such as Bansi Marila Nehe, Ape Panthi Kamare and Queenie. After his schooling, Udara joined the National Film Institute in Pune, India, where he completed his Bachelor of Arts in Film Making.

Udara later worked at Sirasa TV and MTV in Sri Lanka, where he produced and directed TV programmes such as Hindi Top Ten, Lasama, Subasiri, Eye-to-Eye, and Style.

Udara has produced 4 full-length films: Super Six (2012), 'Pani Makuluwo' (2017), 'Sama Kumaru Kathawa' (2019) and 'Soosthi' (yet to be released). He has also worked on two Teledramas as the producer: 'Thuthiri' (2018) and 'Crime Scenes' (2018). As managing director of Aristo Films, Udara has produced over 180 TV commercials (brands), 400 TV commercials (non-brands), 40 documentaries and profiles. He is currently working as CEO of Guththila Strategic Solutions (Pvt) Ltd.

Super Six, is a 2012 Sri Lankan coming-of-age sports comedy film directed and produced by Udara Palliyaguruge for Real Image Films. The film stars Saranga Disasekara and Paboda Sandeepaniin lead roles along with Hemal Ranasinghe, Aruni Rajapaksha, Roshan Ranawana, Pubudu Chathuranga and in supportive roles. The music was composed by Mahesh Denipitiya. It is the 1174th Sri Lankan film in the Sinhala cinema. It is a remake of the 2007 Tamil film Chennai 600028.

Udara Rathnayake is an actor in Sri Lankan cinema and television as well as a businessman and politician by profession. He is most notable for the roles in films Ira Handa Yata and Nela directed by his father.

<i>Ali Kathawa</i> 2017 Sri Lankan film

Ali Kathawa (An Elephant's Tale) (Sinhala: අලි කතාව) is a 2017 Sri Lankan Sinhala children's film directed by Sunil Ariyaratne and produced by Gunapala Rathnasekara for Sipvin Films. It stars a child artist Kaushalya Nirmana in lead role along with Ravindra Randeniya, Tharuka Wanniarachchi, Dhananjaya Siriwardena and Yohani Hansika. Music composed by Rohana Weerasinghe. Ruhire is a 2022 Sri Lankan Sinhala horror thriller film directed by Najini Dikkovita in her directorial cinema debut and produced by Udara Palliyaguru for Guththila Productions. It stars Roshan Ranawana, Paboda Sandeepani, Maheshi Madusanka in lead roles along with Vishva Lanka and Malithi Nanayakkara in supportive roles.
