Under the Fragmented Sky is the sixth studio album by Lunatic Soul, the side project of Riverside bassist, vocalist, and songwriter Mariusz Duda. The album was released on May 25, 2018 by Kscope.
Lunatic Soul's previous album, Fractured , was released in 2017 following the death of both Riverside co-founder and guitarist Piotr Grudziński as well as Duda's father in 2016. With around 90 minutes of music written and recorded, Duda initially considered releasing Fractured as a double album, before deciding instead to trim the album down to around 55 minutes, removing any instrumental tracks (the first Lunatic Soul album to do so), and focusing on the songs which sounded the most different to previous Lunatic Soul releases.
Initially, Under The Fragmented Sky was conceived as a supplementary mini-album to Fractured, consisting of mostly instrumental, unreleased music which did not make the record. [2] However, by January 2018 the project had grown into a full length album, [3] with additional recording sessions taking place between December 2017 and February 2018 at Serakos studio, Warsaw. [4] The album focusses on instrumental and wordless soundscapes — in contrast to Fractured, only two of the album's eight tracks feature lyrics. Nevertheless, according to Duda, the album still serves as a supplement to Fractured. [5]
The album was recorded between June 2016 and June 2017 (during the sessions for Lunatic Soul's previous album, Fractured) and between December 2017 and February 2018, at Serakos Studio in Warsaw, Poland. [6]

They were founded in 2001 by friends Mariusz Duda, Piotr Grudziński, Piotr Kozieradzki and Jacek Melnicki, who shared a love for progressive rock and heavy metal, although Duda, the main lyricist and composer of the band, was originally a fan of electronic, ambient, experimental music, like Radiohead, Massive Attack, Dead Can Dance, Tangerine Dream, Peter Gabriel, and later on, prog rock like Pink Floyd, Rush, Tool, Marillion, as well as thrash metal. American guitarist Jimi Hendrix intended to release his fourth studio album as a double or triple LP before Christmas 1970. From June to August 1970, he made good progress on the realization of the planned album in his new Electric Lady Studios. Many songs were mixed on 20, 22 and 24 August. Four of these mixes were regarded as definitive versions and were presented at the opening party of Electric Lady on 26 August. Hendrix died on 18 September that year, leaving behind an enormous number of unreleased recordings in various stages of completion. It is impossible to know what Hendrix would have changed and what he actually would have released, but there is some documentation of the album configurations he had in mind. While a good amount of the designated tracks only needed some finishing touches, others only existed as rough recordings, and for some titles no recordings are known to exist. The Cry of Love (1971), Voodoo Soup (1995) and First Rays of the New Rising Sun (1997) are officially released attempts to reconstruct the planned album. First Rays of the New Rising Sun is usually regarded as closest to Hendrix's vision, but features a track that was probably never part of Hendrix's plans and omits some tracks that were definitely considered. All but one of the tracks that are known to have been recorded for the album have eventually been released in some form on official albums.

In Poland, Through Shaded Woods peaked at number 5 on OLiS.
