Undergrunn is a Norwegian hip hop group that was formed in Oslo in 2018. The band consists of six members: Patrick Bakkeng (Fretex), Gabriel Doria (Plaza), Sverre Skogheim Gudmestad (Pus), Jo Almaas Marstein (Marstein), Jon Ranes (Loverboy) and Marcos Haugestad (Rikpappa). [1] [2]

History

Growing up in Tøyen and Gamlebyen in Oslo, Undergrunn came together to create music during secondary school. [3] At 15, they debuted with the song "Isbil," leading to an appearance on By:Larm. [4] The group released their EP UG Sommer in 2018.

Their first album, Firenze's Finest, was released in autumn 2020. They received two nominations for P3 Gold 2022, including Artist of the Year and Song of the Year for "Italia." [5] Undergrunn won the year's breakthrough class for the album Undergrunn at the Spellemannprisen 2022, [6] along with four additional nominations in categories such as hip-hop, songwriter of the year, the release of the year for the album Undergrunn, and song of the year for "Italia." [7]

Undergrunn has emerged as one of Norway's most prominent rap groups, known for their unique sound and impactful lyrics. Since their formation, they have blended traditional rap with various musical styles, allowing them to resonate with a broad audience. Recently, they were honored with the Edvard-Prisen for their contribution to the music scene, highlighting their innovative approach and the significance of their work. [8] Their ability to address contemporary social issues while maintaining a relatable and authentic voice has gained them a loyal fan base, further solidifying their position in the industry.

The group’s rise to fame is marked by their performances at numerous music festivals across Norway, including Neon Festival and Slottsfjell. These appearances have showcased their energetic stage presence and connection with fans, further solidifying their reputation in the Norwegian music scene. [9]

Norway was represented at the Eurovision Song Contest 1998 with the song "Alltid sommer", composed by David Eriksen, with lyrics by Linda Andernach Johansen, and performed by Lars A. Fredriksen. The Norwegian participating broadcaster, Norsk rikskringkasting (NRK), organised the national final Melodi Grand Prix 1998 in order to select its entry for the contest. Eight entries competed in a show that took place on 27 February 1999 and the winner, "All I Ever Wanted " performed by Lars A. Fredriksen, was determined by the votes from a six-member jury panel and a regional televote. The song was later translated from English to Norwegian for Eurovision and was titled "Alltid sommer".

P3 Gull, is a music show and an award ceremony organized by the Norwegian radio station NRK P3. P3 Gold was first held on 29 November 2013 at Sentrum Scene in Oslo. It dealt Awards in four categories: "Newcomer of the Year", "Live Artist of the Year", "Song of the Year" and "P3-Prize" (P3-prisen). The live shows will primarily be a meeting between the audience and the music being played on P3.

Marthe Haaland Wang is a Norwegian singer-songwriter born and raised in Bergen. She sings about hope, wonder and relationships and about the past, future and present in the Bergen dialect. Her music can be described as timeless, melodious, playful and serious. The genuine and organic soundscape covers both pop, folk and jazz.
