The 2012 United States House of Representatives election in Delaware took place on Tuesday, November 6, 2012. Voters elected a member of the United States House of Representatives to represent Delaware's At-large congressional district, encompassing the entire state of Delaware. Incumbent Democratic Representative John Carney defeated Republican challenger Tom Kovach to win a second term.

The Libertarian Party (LP) is a political party in the United States that promotes civil liberties, non-interventionism, laissez-faire capitalism and shrinking the size and scope of government. The party was conceived at meetings in the home of David F. Nolan in Westminster, Colorado in 1971 and was officially formed on December 11, 1971 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The founding of the party was prompted in part due to concerns about the Nixon administration, the Vietnam War, conscription and the end of the gold standard.

The Independent Party of Delaware (IPoD) is a political party in the State of Delaware, United States. As of March 2016, it is the third largest political party in Delaware with 5,696 registered voters. The party supports laissez-faire capitalism, limited government, and supports a clean and healthy environment. It was officially formed on August 29, 2000 to provide Delaware voters with an independent alternative to the Republican and Democratic parties. IPoD works to support independent candidates for public office by providing them with ballot access, distributing information to voters, and encouraging participation in candidate debates.

The Green Party of the United States (GPUS) is a green federation of political parties in the United States. The party promotes green politics, specifically environmentalism; nonviolence; social justice; participatory, grassroots democracy; gender equality; LGBT rights; anti-war and anti-racism. On the political spectrum, the party is generally seen as left-wing.

John Charles Carney Jr. is an American politician who is the 74th Governor of Delaware, serving since January 2017. He is a member of the Democratic Party, and served as the U.S. Representative for Delaware's at-large congressional district from 2011 to 2017 prior to his governorship.
