About

The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences offers programs in the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences that enhance the educational quality and depth of all undergraduate colleges on campus. The largest of the colleges at UIC, LAS houses 23 departments and programs. They offer 38 undergraduate major fields of specialization, 36 minors, 14 languages, about 50 graduate degrees at the masters and doctoral levels, and almost 1,000 courses. Students from all undergraduate colleges and many graduate programs enroll in LAS courses. Over 350 tenure track faculty teach the college's approximately 10,000 undergraduate and 1,300 graduate students. [1]

The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences predates the current campus, having been founded in 1946 at the Navy Pier campus. [2] At that time liberal arts education was overseen by an associate dean. In 1964, as the university was being reconstituted at the Circle Campus, the Board of Trustees approved a full-fledged college with seventeen departments.

The college and certain departments are based in University Hall. The remainder of the departments are based around the east campus in the Behavioral Sciences Building (BSB), Science and Engineering Offices (SEO), Science and Engineering Labs (SEL), Science and Engineering South (SES), Grant Hall, and elsewhere.

Today, the college has 83 undergraduate and 44 graduate programs in 23 academic departments and programs. [3] [4]

Trinity Christian College

Trinity Christian College is a private Christian college in Palos Heights, Illinois. It was founded in 1959 by a group of Chicago businessmen who wanted to establish a college providing students with a Christian higher education in a Reformed tradition as a college in Illinois. The college offers degrees in more than 70 programs of study.

The School of Arts and Sciences (A&S) is the largest of the eight schools and colleges that comprise Tufts University. Together with the School of Engineering, it offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in the liberal arts, sciences, and engineering. The two schools occupy the university's main campus in Medford and Somerville, Massachusetts and share many administrative functions including undergraduate admissions, student affairs, library, and information technology services. The two schools form the Faculty of Arts, Sciences, and Engineering (AS&E), a deliberative body under the chairmanship of the president of the university. The college was established in 1913 through the merger of the College of Literature and Arts and the College of Science. University of Rochester College of Arts Sciences and Engineering

The College of Arts, Sciences, and Engineering is one of the primary units of the University of Rochester, encompassing the majority of the undergraduate and graduate enrollment. The College is divided in the units of Arts and Sciences and the Hajim School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. The College is located on the River Campus of the University of Rochester, though some departments maintain facilities on other campuses. The College was established in 1955 upon the merger of the separate colleges for men and women at the university.

The College of Letters and Science (L&S) is the largest of the 14 colleges at the University of California, Berkeley and encompasses the liberal arts. The college was established in its present state in 1915 with the merger of the College of Letters, the College of Social Science, and the College of Natural Science. As of the 2013–14 academic year, there were about 19,000 undergraduates and 2,763 graduate students enrolled in the college. The College of Letters and Science awards only Bachelor of Arts degrees at the undergraduate level, in contrast to the other schools and colleges of UC Berkeley which award only Bachelor of Science degrees at the undergraduate level.

University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) is a private liberal arts-based University in Dhanmondi, Dhaka, Bangladesh. Founded in 1857 as Lind University by a group of Presbyterian ministers, the college has been coeducational since 1876 and an undergraduate-focused liberal arts institution since 1903. The University of Iowa College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) is the largest of the eleven colleges at The University of Iowa, founded in 1900.
