The University of the East College of Dentistry was first established as a unit of the Philippine College of Commerce and Business Administration in 1948. The college is one of the pioneers of dental education and labeled as one of the top dental schools in the Philippines.

The University of the East College of Dentistry ranked No. 1 in among dental schools based on the results of the December 2007 Dentist Licensure Examination released recently by the Professional Regulation Commission’s (PRC) Board of Dentistry. Achieving a passing percentage of 86%. [2]

Four UE College of Dentistry (UECD) fresh graduates clinched 2nd, 5th, 6th and 10th places in the June 2009 Dentist Licensure Examination. UECD achieved a 98% passing percentage with 57 successful examinees out of 58, garnering No. 1 status at the 29-99 examinees category, maintaining its rank as the No. 1 performing school in Dentistry. This 98% passing percentage, higher by more than 100% than the 45.38% national overall passing percentage, is UECD’s highest passing percentage in ten (10) years, resulting to 3 consecutive years of UECD posting more than 90% passing rate. [3]

Foreign Migration

A study published in the Journal of American Dental Association showed that UE College of Dentistry sent the highest number of candidates seeking licensure to practice in the United States between 2002-2005. According to the American Dental Association's Department of Testing Services, a total 169 out of 1270 foreign-trained dentists who took the National Board Dental Examination Part II (U.S. dental licensure exam) were from UE College of Dentistry. National Board Dental Examination(NBDE) is the United States national dental examination for students and professionals in dentistry. It is required for licensure in the United States and may also be required when applying for postgraduate studies in dental specialities after completing a dental degree. Foreign-trained dentists also must take the NBDE in order to earn admission into advanced standing programs in US dental schools.

Cebu Institute of Medicine (CIM) is the independently administered medical school arm of Velez College in Cebu City, Philippines.

The University of the East - College of Business Administration was founded as the mother unit of the University of the East, starting from Philippine College of Commerce and Business Administration (PCCBA) in 1946. UE is one of the pioneers of business education in the Philippines and is considered one of the best accounting schools, especially from its founding up to the 1980s, when UE graduates would dominate the topnotchers list of the CPA board exams. The University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center College of Nursing is a nursing school in the Philippines. It is one of the few nursing schools in the country with the highest accreditation status. The College of Nursing was granted Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities level IV accreditation, Federation of Accreditation Association of the Philippines level IV accreditation, the first and only school with such in the country and is also accredited by the Commission on Higher Education as Center of Excellence. Has 98.13% passing rate as of July 2011 Licensure Exam

The Philippine Bar Examination is the professional licensure examination for lawyers in the Philippines. The exam is exclusively administered by the Supreme Court of the Philippines through the Supreme Court Bar Examination Committee.

Lakshman Samaranayake Sri Lankan oral microbiologist and scientist

Lakshman 'Sam' Samaranayake is a Sri Lankan clinical academic with expertise in diagnostic clinical microbiology and research, senior executive level administration, and dental pedagogy and is best known for his work with Candidiasis. After serving as a Consultant Clinical Microbiologist in Glasgow, UK he joined the academia. Since then, working in five different trans-continental universities, he has authored over 450 scientific communications, cited over 27,000 occasions ). Subsequently, he served over 12 years as the Executive Dean of two major dental schools in Hong Kong, and Australia at the University of Hong Kong and University of Queensland, respectively. He has received numerous accolades for his contributions to dentistry, including the King James IV Professorship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, UK, and the Distinguished Scientist Award of IADR, USA. He holds many visiting/honorary professor appointments in the universities of Thailand, Australia, Indonesia, the UK, the Middle East, and China.
