Karabo Poppy's Utah Jazz mural is installed in Salt Lake City, Utah, United States. [1] [2] The mural was painted in 2018. [3]
Poppy is a designer and artist who has worked extensively with many brands and received acclaim for her work. [4] [5] [6]
Prior to painting the mural, Poppy had never been to Utah and only known about the Utah Jazz months prior to beginning her work. [1] She spoke with members of the Utah Jazz in the 2018–19 season such as Ricky Rubio and his Jazz teammates Rudy Gobert, Joe Ingles, and Derrick Favors at the Zions Bank Basketball Campus before finalizing her design and beginning to paint the mural. She found herself drawn to the power of a slam dunk and the creativity of dribbling a basketball. She conceived the mural through these inspirations and sought to capture the energy of the game, jazz music, and Utah’s love for the team while blending African aesthetics.
The mural measures at 20 feet by 70 feet (6.096m x 21.336m), and it is located in the west-facing wall of Valter’s Osteria in downtown Salt Lake City.
Poppy began work on the mural on October 21, 2018, and finished on November 1 shortly after midnight.

Mark Edward Eaton was an American professional basketball player who spent his entire career (1982–1993) with the Utah Jazz of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Named an NBA All-Star in 1989, he was twice voted the NBA Defensive Player of the Year and was a five-time member of the NBA All-Defensive Team. Though limited offensively, the 7-foot-4-inch (2.24 m) Eaton became one of the best defensive centers in NBA history. He led the league in blocks four times and holds the NBA single-season records for blocks (456) and blocked shots per game average (5.6), as well as career blocked shots per game (3.5). His No. 53 was retired by the Jazz.
KJZZ-TV is an independent television station in Salt Lake City, Utah, United States. It is owned by Sinclair Broadcast Group alongside CBS affiliate KUTV and MyNetworkTV affiliate KMYU in St. George. The stations share studios on South Main Street in downtown Salt Lake City, while KJZZ-TV's transmitter is located on Farnsworth Peak in the Oquirrh Mountains, southwest of Salt Lake City. KJZZ-TV is the ATSC 3.0 host station for the Salt Lake City market; in turn, other stations broadcast its subchannels on its behalf.
Natalie Jean Williams is an American basketball executive and former player in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). The Delta Center is an indoor venue in Salt Lake City, Utah. Opened in 1991, the arena serves as the home for the Utah Jazz of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Over the years, it has also hosted other professional sports teams including the Utah Blaze of the Arena Football League and the Utah Starzz of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). With a seating capacity of 18,306 for basketball, 14,000 for ice hockey and indoor football, and 20,000 for concerts, the arena offers space for many kinds of events. It has 56 luxury suites and 668 club seats. During the 2002 Winter Olympics, the arena hosted figure skating and short-track speed skating competitions under the name "Salt Lake Ice Center".
Minerva Bernetta Kohlhepp Teichert was a 20th-century American painter notable for her art depicting Western and Mormon subjects, including a collection of murals depicting scenes from the Book of Mormon. Teichert received her art education from the Art Institute of Chicago and the Art Students League of New York. Teichert was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Other religious-themed artwork she is known for include Christ in a Red Robe, Queen Esther, and Rescue of the Lost Lamb. Additionally, Teichert painted 42 murals related to stories in the Book of Mormon which reside in Brigham Young University's (BYU) Museum of Art. She was the first woman invited to paint a mural for an LDS Church temple.

The 2002 Winter Olympic Games were held in and around Salt Lake City, United States from February 8 to 24, 2002, and the Paralympics from March 7 to 16, 2002. Florence Ellen Ware was an American artist from Utah. She was a painter and a professor of art at the University of Utah for 25 years. She is well known for her murals, sponsored by the WPA and painted in the university's Kingsbury Hall in 1936.

In August 2020, eight artists painted a Black Lives Matter street mural in Salt Lake City's Washington Square Park, outside the Salt Lake City and County Building, in the U.S. state of Utah. The city had commissioned the painting with a contest "to support and memorialize the national movement to eliminate systemic racism".
