Utopia Defeated is the first album from Castlemaine musician D.D Dumbo, released on 6 October 2016 by Liberation Music in Australia and New Zealand and by 4AD in the rest of the world.

At the J Awards of 2016, the album won the Australian Album of the Year. [1]

Reception

Critical reception for Utopia Defeated has been uniformly positive, with the album receiving an 80% score on Metacritic, based on 8 reviews, indicating 'generally favourable reviews'. [2] Sarah Smith for Rolling Stone Australia wrote that DD Dumbo "conjures fantastical visions singing of squidling, spilt blood and the sea on his exceptional debut" [3] and Shaad D'Souza for Faster Louder said "If there’s one thing we learn through the course of the album, it’s that D.D Dumbo’s beautiful, fractal arrangements can make even the most hellish scenario sound utopian." [4] Timothy Monger for AllMusic wrote that "Perry introduces a unique vision and his impressive debut is well worth the time it takes to let it decant." [5]

D.D Dumbo is the solo project of the Australian, Castlemaine-based musician, Oliver Hugh Perry, who began the project in 2013 with the release of his self-titled debut EP Tropical Oceans, released by The Blue Rider in 2013 and later re-released by 4AD in 2014. The EP received positive reviews and from here, Perry was invited to attend South by Southwest in the same year, where he was signed by 4AD. Perry also supported Warpaint, Tune-Yards, St. Vincent, Jungle and Iron & Wine in 2013.

Primitives is Bayonne's debut studio album. The album was originally released by Roger Sellers on September 27, 2014 via Punctum Records. Primitives would later be re-released on March 26, 2016 via Mom + Pop Music under Bayonne, Roger Sellers' stage name.
