Uzbekistan competed at the 2017 Asian Winter Games in Sapporo and Obihiro, Japan from February 19 to 26. [1] [2] The country competed with one athlete in one sport: figure skating.

Uzbekistan Landlocked Republic in Central Asia

Uzbekistan, officially the Republic of Uzbekistan, is a doubly landlocked country in Central Asia and also a former Soviet Republic. The sovereign state is a secular, unitary constitutional republic, comprising 12 provinces, one autonomous republic, and a capital city. Uzbekistan is bordered by five landlocked countries: Kazakhstan to the north; Kyrgyzstan to the northeast; Tajikistan to the southeast; Afghanistan to the south; and Turkmenistan to the southwest. 2017 Asian Winter Games

The 2017 Asian Winter Games was the 8th edition of the Asian Winter Games. They were hosted in Sapporo and Obihiro, Japan. These Games were originally scheduled for 2015, however, in the Olympic Council of Asia's general assembly in Singapore on 3 July 2009, the committee decided to move the Games to one year before the Winter Olympics moving forward. The games began on 19 February with the opening ceremony and ended with the closing ceremony on 26 February.

Sapporo Designated city in Hokkaido, Japan

Sapporo is the fifth largest city of Japan by population, and the largest city on the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido. It is the capital city of Hokkaido Prefecture and Ishikari Subprefecture. It is an ordinance-designated city. Located in the southwestern part of Hokkaido, Sapporo lies within the alluvial fan of the Toyohira River, a tributary stream of the Ishikari River.

Uzbekistan originally did not enter any athletes at the close of entries in December 2016. [3] However, the country was allowed to enter athletes after the deadline.

Uzbekistan's lone athlete competed in the men's singles event. Misha Ge, scored 76.18 points in the short program to be ranked eighth. [4]

Misha Tszyunovich Ge is an Uzbek figure skater. He is the 2017 Internationaux de France bronze medalist. In addition to this, he has won nine international medals and four Uzbekistan national titles. He has finished in the top-ten at six ISU Championships, including two World Championships, competed at the 2014 Winter Olympics and the 2018 Winter Olympics, finishing 17th in both competitions.
