A border checkpoint is a place, generally between two countries, where travelers or goods are inspected. Authorization often is required to enter a country through its borders. Access-controlled borders often have a limited number of checkpoints where they can be crossed without legal sanctions. Arrangements or treaties may be formed to allow or mandate less restrained crossings. Land border checkpoints can be contrasted with the customs and immigration facilities at seaports, international airports, and other ports of entry.
Uzhhorod previously and historically known as Ungvár is a city located in western Ukraine, at the border with Slovakia and near the border with Hungary. The city is located nearly within the same distance to the three nearest seas: the Baltic, the Adriatic and the Black Sea making it the most inland city in this part of Europe. It is the administrative center of Zakarpattia Oblast (region), as well as the administrative center of the surrounding Uzhhorod Raion (district) within the oblast. The city itself is also designated as city of oblast significance, a status equivalent to that of a raion, and does not belong to Uzhhorod Raion. Population: 115,163 (2016 est.).
Chop is a city located in Zakarpattia Oblast (province) of western Ukraine, near the borders of Slovakia and Hungary. It is separated from the Hungarian town of Záhony by the river Tisza by being situated on its right bank. Located inside Uzhhorod Raion, since 2003 it is designated as a city of oblast significance - not included in any raion (district) of the oblast. Population: 8,937 (2016 est.).
European route E 50 is an A-type east–west connection across the European continent. It connects the key naval port of Brest France with Makhachkala, on the Caspian Sea in the Russian republic Dagestan.
Uzhhorod is the main railway station in Uzhhorod, Ukraine. It also is used as a port on the Slovakia–Ukraine border for freight transportation. The rail border checkpoint is part of the Chop customs.

The Turner-Climax Border Crossing connects the towns of Turner, Montana and Climax, Saskatchewan on the Canada–US border. This facility is one of only six joint US-Canada border stations where U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) share a single facility. The rationale for making this facility a joint border station was primarily for officer safety, since the border stations on both sides of the border were often staffed by only one officer at a time.
Highway M08 is the shortest Ukraine international highway. It serves as a loop route bypassing the city of Uzhhorod on the northern (mountainous) side. It is part of European route E50 and European route E58.
Malyi Bereznyi Port of Entry is a land border crossing between Ukraine and Slovakia on the Ukrainian side, near the village of Malyi Bereznyi, Velykyi Bereznyi Raion. The crossing is situated on autoroute I/74 - P53. Across the border on the Slovak side is the village of Ubľa. The Slovak border crossing simultaneously serves as a crossing with the European Union.
