Education

Prof. Ahuja obtained his Master's degree in Law from Faculty of Law, University of Delhi, [15] Master of Philosophy (M. Phil) from Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi and Ph.D. from the University of Delhi. [16]

Early life

He began his career in the field of law as a Research Associate at the Faculty of Law in 1994, and subsequently worked as a Lecturer at Law Centre - II from 1995 to 1997, and then from 1998 to 2000. In 1997-98, he briefly served as an Education Officer at the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI). He continued his teaching career at Law Centre - II as a Senior Lecturer from 2000 to 2004, and then as a Reader from 2004 to 2007. In 2005-06, he also served as the Principal of Lovely Institute of Law. Prof. Ahuja's contributions to legal education and research have been widely recognized, and he was appointed as an Associate Professor at Law Centre - II in 2007. He was promoted to the post of Professor at the Faculty of Law, University of Delhi in 2010.

Academic career

Prof. Ahuja started his career in 1994 as a research associate at Faculty of Law, University of Delhi and became a Lecturer in 1995. In the year 2004, he was elevated to the post of Reader. [17] Later he became associate professor in the year 2007 and professor in 2010 at University of Delhi. [18] He also served as the Principal [19] of Lovely Institute of Law, Punjab (affiliated to Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar). He was the Professor In-charge of Law Centre-II, Faculty of Law, University of Delhi during 2017-2020. [20] Furthermore, he was also appointed as Joint Director of Delhi School of Public Policy and Governance established under the Institute of Eminence (IOE), University of Delhi in 2020. [21] In June 2021, Ahuja was appointed as Vice-Chancellor of National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam, India.

Memberships and Boards

Prof. Ahuja served as a member of the Governing Body of Hindu College and Aryabhatta College [22] of University of Delhi. He is also associated as a member of the Board of Management of Judicial Academy, Assam and a Member of the General Council of Damodaram Sanjivayya National Law University, Visakhapatnam. [23] He served as a member of the Board of Studies/Academic Council/Executive Council of several Central and State Universities such as Rajiv Gandhi University, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim University, [24] Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Patiala, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar National Law University, Sonipat, School of Law, VIT-AP University, [25] B.B. Ambedkar University, Lucknow to name a few. He was the Regional Co-Ordinator for the entire North-East for the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) in the year 2021 and a member of the Governing Body of the Consortium of NLUs. [26] Prof. Ahuja is one of the Jury members of India Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) 100 Awards 2022. [27]

Awards

In 2003, he received the first prize as an exemplary teacher in the Fifth South Asian Teaching Session on International Humanitarian Law and Refugee Law organized jointly by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and National Law School of India University, Bangalore. Ahuja is a Hindu surname, mainly in the Punjab and Sindh region. It is held by Hindus and Sikhs of the Arora Khatri community. The Ahuja means "descendant of Ahu".

The Copyright Act 1957 as amended governs the subject of copyright law in India. The Act is applicable from 21 January 1958. The history of copyright law in India can be traced back to its colonial era under the British Empire. The Copyright Act 1957 was the first post-independence copyright legislation in India and the law has been amended six times since 1957. The most recent amendment was in the year 2012, through the Copyright (Amendment) Act 2012.

Shamnad Basheer was an Indian legal scholar and founder of the blog SpicyIP. He was also the founder of IDIA, a trust which works on making legal education accessible for underprivileged students. Basheer was a Ministry of Human Resource Development Chaired Professor of Intellectual Property Law at the WBNUJS, Kolkata, and the Frank H. Marks Visiting Associate Professor of Intellectual Property Law at the George Washington University Law School, and a research associate at the Oxford Intellectual Property Research Center (OIPRC). He founded several initiatives such as SpicyIP, IDIA, P-PIL and Lex Biosis. Prof. J.S. Patil is a Professor of Law and the former Vice-Chancellor of National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam. He was the Founder Vice-Chancellor of Karnataka State Law University, Hubli, 2009–12.

Dennis S. Karjala was an American intellectual property law professor at Arizona State University. His major interests in teaching and research were primarily in the area of intellectual property, specifically in copyright and its applications in digital technologies. His work in the field of intellectual property was internationally recognized and complemented by his ease in speaking and writing in Japanese.

Sudhir Krishnaswamy is an Indian academic, administrator, and civil society activist who is currently the Vice-Chancellor of the National Law School of India University (NLSIU) and is a co-founder of the not-for-profit research trust Centre for Law and Policy Research (CLPR). Krishnaswamy took over as VC of NLSIU from R. Venkata Rao in September 2019. Krishnaswamy is the first alumnus of NLSIU to be appointed as the VC of the institution. On 6 May 2020, Facebook appointed him to its content oversight board. He was awarded the Infosys Prize 2022 in the Humanities category, for his insightful understanding of the Indian Constitution.

Nuzhat Parveen Khan is an Indian academician and author who served as the dean of Bennett University's School of Law. She has formerly served as the dean of Jamia Millia Islamia's Faculty of Law and is now a professor at the university. She has authored dozen of books including Women and Child related Laws, Comparative Constitutional Law and Globalisation of Professional Legal Education Constitutional Conspectus.
