V. R. Sudheesh is an Indian writer, screenwriter, translator and academic, who writes in Malayalam. He is a two-time recipient of the Kerala Sahithya Akademi Award.

Life

Sudheesh was born in Vadakara near Kozhikode in the south Indian state of Kerala. [1] He did his pre degree from farook college and graduated in history from Madappally Government College and earned an MA in Malayalam literature from Government Brennen College, Tellicherry. [2] He has completed M.Phil from Madras University. Subsequently, He became a teacher in colleges under SN Trust. [1] and retired from service as the principal of Sree Narayana Guru College, Chelannoor in 2018. [3] The writer was booked for insulting and threatening a Kozhikode-based woman publisher in June 2022.

Literary career

Sudheesh started writing at a very young age and his early works were published in the children's column of Mathrubhumi Weekly and later in Chandrika Weekly and Deshabhimani Weekly. [4]

Awards

Sudheesh received the Kerala State Television Award for screenplay in 2005. [3] His short story anthology, Bhavana Bhedanam fetched him the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for Story in 2014. [5] Three years later, he received the 2017 Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for Children's Literature for his work, Kurukkan Mashinte School [6] and in 2020, he was awarded the Thoppil Ravi Award for the work, Kadukkachi Manga. [7] He is also a recipient of C. V. Sreeraman Award, T. V. Kochubawa Award and Bheema Bala Sahitya Award. [3] In 2020, he received the Abu Dhabi Sakthi Award in story category for his work Kadukkachi Manga. [8]

Thinakkal Padmanabhan, popularly known as T. Padmanabhan, is an Indian short story writer of Malayalam literature. He is a recipient of several awards including the Ezhuthachan Puraskaram, the highest literary award of the Government of Kerala. He declined some of the earlier awards he was selected for which include Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award (1973), Odakkuzhal Award (1995) and Sahitya Akademi Award (1996). Punathil Kunjabdulla was an Indian writer from Kerala. A medical doctor by profession, Kunjabdulla was a practitioner of the avant-garde in Malayalam literature. His work includes more than 45 books, including 7 novels, 15 short story collections, memoirs, an autobiography and travelogues. His work Smarakasilakal won the Central and State Akademi Awards.

N. P. Mohammed, popularly known by his initials N. P., was an Indian novelist, short story writer and screenwriter of Malayalam language. Along with his contemporaries like M. T. Vasudevan Nair, O. V. Vijayan, Kakkanadan, and Madhavikutty, he was known to have been one of the pioneers of modernist movement in Malayalam fiction. He was the president of Kerala Sahitya Akademi and a recipient of several awards including Kendra Sahitya Akademi Award, Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for Story, Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for Novel, Lalithambika Antharjanam Award, Padmaprabha Literary Award and the Muttathu Varkey Award.

Gracy is a Malayalam author. Her first collection of short stories, Padiyirangippoya Parvati, was published in 1991. Her awards include the Lalithambika Antharjanam Award (1995), the Thoppil Ravi Award (1997), the Katha Prize for the Best Malayalam Short Story (1998) and the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award (2000). Her major works are Narakavaathil, Randu Swapna Darsikal, Kaveriyude Neru, Eezbu Penkathakal, Panikkannu and a collection, Gracyude Kathakal. He was a chemistry professor at CMS College Kottayam. He is a three-time recipient of the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award.
