VII is the debut studio album by Congolese-born singer TRESOR. It was released on 18 September 2015 through Sony Music. The album features South African artists Beatenberg, Khuli Chana, AKA and the Soil. [1] The 17-track album won Best Pop Album at the 2016 South African Music Awards and was nominated for Album of the Year and Best Newcomer, which made it one of the most nominated albums. [2]
The album had taken him seven years to compose and detailed his seven years of being in South Africa and working on the album since. TRESOR explained his album to News24:
I am very excited to share this music that I have crafted for the past seven years. This is a soundtrack to my story. I have poured my whole heart and soul in this record. It's my gold and I truly hope that whoever listens to it finds their piece of gold in it too. [1]
The song "Mount Everest" featured South African rapper AKA. [3] The song received positive feedback and was remixed by DJ Freddy Verano. The music video was released on 6 February 2015. [4]
"Zambezi" is the fourth song from VII. The song was written by TRESOR in collaboration with Matthew Field from Beatenberg and was a fan favourite at the time of its release. [5]

TRESOR released VII (Repack), an extended version of VII, on 12 August 2016. It featured three new songs including the singles "Mount Everest", "Never Let Me Go" (Mobi Dixon Remix), "Zambezi" with Beatenberg, the new single "This Is Home" featuring Khuli Chana, a new version of "Beat the Dust" featuring Sauti Sol and a live recording of TRESOR on tour with Seal. It's such an incredible feeling to see the music being appreciated in different corners of the globe. As a pioneer of African pop music, reaching number one is a sign that we are on the right path, taking the new sound, moulded in Africa, to the world. We are just getting started. The song "Never Let Me Go" (Mobi Dixon Remix) was nominated for Best Remix of the Year at the 22nd South African Music Awards. [6]
On 26 October 2016, to showcase the album, TRESOR kicked off his VII Repack Tour showcase at The Goodluck Bar in Newtown in Johannesburg. [10]

"Aboki" is a song by Nigerian rapper Ice Prince. It was released on 28 August 2012, serving as the lead single from his second studio album, Fire of Zamani (2013). The song was produced by Chopstix and released along with "More". It peaked at number 92 on Afribiz's Top 100 chart.
The MTV Africa Music Awards 2014 took place on 7 June 2014, at the Durban International Convention Centre. The awards aired live across Africa on MTV Base and MTV. The ceremony was sponsored by KwaZulu-Natal Province, Absolut and the City of Durban. The show was hosted by American comedian and actor Marlon Wayans. The ceremony featured performances from artists such as Miguel, Trey Songz, Flavour N'abania, French Montana, Tiwa Savage, Davido, Mafikizolo, Uhuru, Oskido, Professor, Diamond Platnumz, Phyno, Yuri Da Cunha, Sauti Sol, Sarkodie, Ice Prince, The Arrows, Khuli Chana, Dr SID, Fally Ipupa, Michael Lowman, Don Jazzy, DJ Clock, Beatenberg, DJ Kent, Big Nuz, Toofan, D'Banj, DJ Vigi, DJ Tira, DJ Buckz, and Burna Boy. On 27 May 2014, the nominees for the MTV Base Leadership Award were announced. On 28 May, MTV Base revealed Drake, Beyoncé, Rihanna, Pharrell Williams, and Miley Cyrus as the nominees for the Best International Act category. Davido and Mafikizolo received the most nominations with four each. Mi Casa and P-Square received three nominations. Diamond Platnumz and Wizkid were nominated twice for both Best Male and Best Collaboration.
The 2014 Channel O Music Video Awards took place on 29 November 2014 at the Nasrec Expo Centre in Soweto. Nominees were announced on 4 September. Cassper Nyovest, K.O and Davido led the nominations with 5 each. DJ Clock's hit song "Pluto", which features the singing trio Beatenberg, followed with 4. AKA and Uhuru both received three nominations apiece. Cassper Nyovest and Diamond Platnumz both took home three awards apiece.
Mafikizolo is a South African Afro-pop music group formed in 1996, consisting of composer Theo Kgosinkwe, lead singer Nhlanhla Mafu and Composer Tebogo Madingoane, who was shot and killed 14 February 2004. The group rose to fame after they released their singles "Ndihamba Nawe kuphela", "Kwela Kwela", "Sibongile", "Udakwa Njalo" . The group released their self-titled album Mafikizolo in 1997 and Music Revolution in 1999.
Beatenberg is a South African band based in Cape Town, composed of Matthew Field, Robin Brink, and Ross Dorkin. The group signed with Universal Music Group label in 2012. They gained national attention in 2014 from their collaboration with the artist DJ Clock with "Pluto ", which became the number one popular song on South African radio for over 19 consecutive weeks.
Kiernan Jarryd Forbes (28 January 1988 – 10 February 2023), known professionally as AKA, was a South African rapper, record producer, and businessman. Born in Cape Town and raised in Johannesburg, Forbes gained recognition after releasing his single "Victory Lap" from his debut studio album, Altar Ego (2011). He was one of the most popular South African musicians of his era and the best-selling South African hip hop artist of all-time.
Khulane Morule, better known by his stage name Khuli Chana, is a South African Motswako rapper.
Refilwe Boingotlo Moeketsi, known professionally as Fifi Cooper is a South African recording artist. Fifi Cooper started her music career as an R&B singer before her musical versatility saw her release her breakthrough rap single "Chechela Morago" in 2010. In 2015, she released her award-winning debut studio album 20FIFI.
The 24th Annual South African Music Awards was held at Sun City, in the North West on 2 June 2018. The list of nominees was announced on 19 April 2018 at Birchwood Hotel in Ekurhuleni. It was aired live on SABC 1 at 20:00 SAST (CAT). The show was hosted by Somizi Mhlongo, Dineo Ranaka and Mpho Popps.

Mukengerwa Tresor Riziki, best known by his stage name Tresor, is a Congolese-born singer, songwriter, music producer, entrepreneur and philanthropist. He gained prominence in 2015 after releasing his single "Mount Everest" from his debut album, VII. His name "Tresor", when translated from French, means "treasure".
RUMBLE IN THE JUNGLE is an amapiano collaborative album by TRESOR, DJ Maphorisa and Kabza De Small. It was released on 9 April 2021 and features guest appearances from local South African musicians such as Tyler ICU, Mas Musiq and the Cape Town band Beatenberg. The 14-track album is composed of TRESOR's vocals, which are combined from genres such as amapiano, Kwassa kwassa, rumba, salsa, bubblegum and Afrobeats. The album also alternates between Swahili, French, English, Zulu and Lingala.
Nostalgia is the third studio album by Congolese-born singer TRESOR. It was released on 25 January 2019 through his label VII Recordings. The album features African artists AKA, Kwesta, Lokua Kanza, Beatenberg, Mafikizolo, The Soil, Sauti Sol and Msaki. The 13-track album won Best afro pop album at the 25th South African Music Awards in 2019 and was certified Gold by the Recording Industry of South Africa (RiSA) on 26 September 2020.
The Beautiful Madness is the second studio album by Congolese-born singer TRESOR. It was released on 26 May 2017 through his label VII Recordings. The album features South African artists Da Capo, The Kiffness, Shotgun Fakes, Hugh Masekela and the Mahotella Queens. The 16-track album won Best Pop Album and was nominated for Album of the Year and Best Male Artist at the 24th South African Music Awards four months after its release.
