Valerijonas Balčiūnas (27 November 1904 – 18 December 1984) was a Lithuanian footballer who competed in the 1924 Summer Olympics. [1] [2]
Balčiūnas was a goalkeeper for ŠŠ Kovas Kaunas when he got called up to represent Lithuania at the 1924 Summer Olympics in Paris, France, unfortunately they lost in the first round against Switzerland 0-9, a couple of days later a friendly match was arranged against Egypt and this time Balčiūnas conceded 10 goals. Over the next two years Balčiūnas played three more internationals including Lithuania's first ever international victory which was against Estonia. [3]
Balčiūnas would later become an international referee, and officiated in five internationals all involving Latvia. [4]
Alfréd Hajós was a Hungarian swimmer, football (soccer) player, referee, manager, and career architect. He was the first modern Olympic swimming champion and the first Olympic champion of Hungary. Formerly excelling in track including discus and hurdles, he was part of the first National European football/soccer team fielded by Hungary in 1902, later serving as manager, referee, and coach.

Pedro Vicente Saturnino Vallana Jeanguenat was a Spanish footballer, referee and manager in Spain in the 1920s. He was of Italian and Swiss descent. He spent all 12 seasons of his playing career with Arenas de Getxo, during the club's golden age, thus being a historical player of the club and part of the so-called one-club men group. He was a member of the Spain national team which won the silver medal in the football tournament of the 1920 Summer Olympics in Antwerp. He participated in a further two Olympic Games for a total of three, a record that no other Spanish footballer has broken. Once retired, he was a prestigious referee in Spain in La Liga and during the Spanish Civil War, he coached the Basque Country national team, a fact that led to his exile in Uruguay after the war, living there until his death in 1980.
