Vann Stuedeman (born September 11, 1972) is an American softball coach who is the current head coach at UTSA. [1] She also the former head coach of the Mississippi State Lady Bulldogs softball team, which represents Mississippi State University in the Southeastern Conference. She has led the Lady Bulldogs to NCAA Tournament appearances in seven of her eight years as head coach.

Stuedeman was previously the pitching coach at Alabama, where she helped lead the Crimson Tide to six Women's College World Series appearances and an NCAA Tournament appearance each year. [2] She was also the pitching coach at Illinois for one season.

Coaching career

Mississippi State

On July 16, 2019, it was announced that Vann Stuedeman would not return as head coach. [3]

Illinois

On August 25, 2022, Vann Stuedeman was announced as an assistant coach and pitching coach for the Illinois softball program. [4] [5] On May 24, 2023, Stuedeman departed from the softball staff at Illinois. [6]

UTSA

On June 22, 2023, Stuedeman was announced as head coach of the UTSA Roadrunners softball program. [7]

Personal

Stuedeman is a 1990 graduate of Vestavia Hills High School in Vestavia Hills, Alabama. She earned a Bachelor of Accounting degree from Huntingdon College in 1994 and a Master's in Elementary Education from the University of West Alabama in 1996. [2] Both she and here sister, Lorraine “Les” Stuedeman, played softball at Huntingdon and are members of The Huntingdon College Athletic Hall of Fame. [8] [9]

Debra "Debbie" Ann Doom is an American, former collegiate All-American, retired professional right-handed softball pitcher originally from Tempe, Arizona. She played for the UCLA Bruins from 1982-1985 and the United States' national softball team just prior to the major boom in the sport's popularity both in America and worldwide. She was the singularly most dominant pitcher in softball during her career and was remarkable for her exceptional fastball and her height. She ranks currently in numerous softball records for the Bruins and in the NCAA Division I. Doom was named the Women's Professional Softball League's inaugural World Series MVP in 1997.

A'Quonesia Krashun Franklin, also known as Aqua, is an American basketball coach and former player. She played two seasons in the WNBA. She was a three-year captain of the Texas A&M team from the 2005–06 to 2007–08 seasons. She received All-America honorable mention honors from the Associated Press two times, and has also received all-Big 12 honors. In May 2019, she was named the head coach of the Lamar University women's basketball team.

Katherine Burkhart is an American, former collegiate All-American, retired professional All-Star softball pitcher and softball coach. She played college softball at Arizona State, and won a national championship with the team in 2008 and was named Most Outstanding Player. Burkhart holds the career records in wins, strikeouts, perfect games, WHIP, innings pitched and strikeout ratio for the school. She also ranks in several career pitching categories and the top-10 for strikeouts and perfect games for both the Pac-12 Conference and the NCAA Division I. She has also pitched for the USA Softball team. She also helped remove snakes from a plane that was bound from Hawaii to Phoenix in 2023.

Marjorie Ann Wright is a former college softball coach. She was the head softball coach at California State University, Fresno—more commonly known as Fresno State—from 1986 to 2012. She led the Fresno State Bulldogs to the NCAA national softball championship in 1998 and is the NCAA's second all-time winningest softball coach. She also ranks second all-time in career victories among NCAA Division I coaches in all sports. She was inducted into the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2000 and the International Women's Sports Hall of Fame in 2001. She retired at the end of the 2012 season.

Barry Lunney Jr. is an American football coach. He is the offensive coordinator at the University of Illinois. Lunney served as the interim head football coach at the University of Arkansas for the final two games of the 2019 season.

Stephanie VanBrakle Prothro is an American former softball player and current head coach at Memphis. She previously served as the head coach at Samford and Birmingham–Southern.
