Vembakottai is a neighbourhood in Virudhunagar district of Tamil Nadu state in India. Vembakottai is of importance that archaeological excavation had done three times where thousands of artefacts unearthed there that indicated people had lived along the banks of Vaippar river, 2000 years ago. [2] [3]

As per 2011 census of India, Vembakottai had a population of 4,478 out of which 2,225 are males and 2253 are females. [6]

Srivilliputhur, also known as Thiruvilliputhur is a municipality in Virudhunagar district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. As of 2011, the town had a population of 75,396. The most important landmark of Thiruvilliputhur is 11-tiered tower structure dedicated to the Vatapatrasayee (Vishnu), the presiding deity of the Srivilliputhur Divya Desam. The tower of this temple rises 192 feet high and is the official symbol of the Government of Tamil Nadu. It is said to have been built by Periyalvar, in the year 788 CE and believed to be the adopted father of the temple deity, with a purse of gold that he won in debates held in the palace of Pandya King Vallabhadeva. Keezhadi, or Keeladi, is a Sangam period settlement site, where excavation are carried out by the Archaeological Survey of India and the Tamil Nadu State Department of Archaeology. This site is located near the town of Keezhadi in Sivaganga district, Tamil Nadu, about 12 km southeast of Madurai. The settlement lies on the bank of the Vaigai River and it reflects the ancient culture of Tamil Nadu. Epigraphist V. Vedachalam, who served as a domain expert for the excavation, dated the excavated remains between 6th century BCE and 3rd century BCE.

On 29 June 2024, another explosion at a different fire cracker unit near Sattur, resulted in four deaths and one injury.
