Verena Faißt (born 22 May 1989) is a German footballer. She plays as a defender for Bayern Munich and the German national team. [1] [2]

Career

Club

Faißt began her career at SC Kappel in 2000. She moved to SC Freiburg in 2004, where she initially played in the club's youth and second team. For the 2006–07 season, Faißt joined Freiburg's Bundesliga squad and made her first division debut. After seven years at the club, Faißt transferred to VfL Wolfsburg in 2010–11 season. [1] In the 2012–2013 season, Faißt won the German League, the German Cup, and the Champion's League with Wolfsburg. In 2014, she won the German League and the Champions League again and in 2015 the German Cup. Faißt transferred to Bayern Munich in the 2016–2017 season, where she signed a two-year contract that will last until 30 June 2018. [3]

SC Freiburg is the women's association football team of SC Freiburg. The team played several seasons in Germany's top-level league. In 2009–10 they were relegated from the Bundesliga to the 2. Bundesliga. One year later they again were promoted to the Bundesliga.

At junior level, Faißt represented Germany at the 2008 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup, reaching third-place. She made her debut for the German senior national team in October 2010 in a friendly match against Australia. Faißt was called up for Germany's 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup squad. [2]

Frauen-Bundesliga Professional football league (women)

The Frauen-Bundesliga, currently known as the Allianz Frauen-Bundesliga due to sponsorship by Allianz, is the top level of league competition for women's association football in Germany. In 1990 the German Football Association (DFB) created the German Women's Bundesliga, based on the model of the men's Bundesliga. It was first played with north and south divisions, but in 1997 the groups were merged to form a uniform league. The league currently consists of twelve teams and the seasons usually last from late summer to the end of spring with a break in the winter.

The 2012–13 season of the Frauen-Bundesliga was the 23rd season of Germany's premier women's football league. The season began on 1 September 2012 and ended on 12 May 2013. Turbine Potsdam were the defending champions.

The 2013–14 season of the Frauen-Bundesliga was the 24th season of Germany's premier women's football league. The season began on 7 September 2013 and concluded on 8 June 2014. VfL Wolfsburg defended their title.

The FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup is an international association football tournament, organized by FIFA, for national teams of women under the age of 20. The tournament is held in even-numbered years. It was first conducted in 2002 as the FIFA U-19 Women's World Championship with an upper age limit of 19. In 2006, the age limit was raised to the current 20. The event was renamed as a World Cup effective with the 2008 competition, making its name consistent with FIFA's other worldwide competitions for national teams.
