Transport in Norway is highly influenced by Norway's low population density, narrow shape and long coastline. Norway has old water transport traditions, but road, rail and air transport have increased in importance during the 20th century. Due to the low population density, public transport is somewhat less built out in rural areas of Norway, however public transport in, and around cities is well developed.
Boreal Norge AS is a Norwegian public transport operator. Established as a subsidiary of CGEA Transport in 1999, it operates through its subsidiaries buses, ferries and trams in the counties of Finnmark, Nordland, Rogaland, Sør-Trøndelag and Troms, primarily through the purchase of former monopolists. The company has 2,500 employees and operates ca 920 buses, 34 ferries/ships and 9 trams.
Telemark Kollektivtrafikk was a Norwegian bus company that operated the city buses in Grenland, Telemark. The company held a public service obligation (PSO) contract with the County of Telemark for city buses in Porsgrunn and Skien.
Kolumbus AS, formerly Rogaland Kollektivtrafikk FKF, is the public transportation administration in Rogaland, Norway and organised as a county agency. The agency is responsible for planning, marketing and organising the public transport in Rogaland, including buses and passenger ferries, but does not perform any transport itself. Instead it awards public service obligation (PSO) contracts to independent operators. The agency was created on January 1, 2002 and has 35 employees and offices at Byterminalen in Stavanger. All buses operated in Rogaland are branded as Kolumbus and painted green. Before Kolumbus was created, there were several smaller companies who was responsible for the transport in the different parts of Rogaland. However, because of complications with bus lines not overlapping with each other, the bus companies finally decided to unite and become Kolumbus, or Rogaland Kollektivtrafikk as it is also known as.
AS Oslo Sporveier or the Oslo Public Transport Administration is a municipally owned limited company that is responsible for planning, marketing and organising the public transport in Oslo, Norway. The company does not operate any public transport, but instead either awards public service obligation (PSO) contracts or negotiates contracts with Oslo T-banedrift and Oslo Sporvognsdrift concerning the operation of Oslo T-bane and the Oslo Tramway.
Unibuss, formerly known as AS Sporveisbussene and Nexus Trafikk, is a Norwegian bus company based in Oslo, Norway. It is a subsidiary of the municipal public transport group Sporveien, and was created in 2003 to allow the company to compete for the public service obligation (PSO) contracts through which Oslo was to operate its bus system. In 2017 Unibuss carried 98 million passengers on 759 buses operating on 203 routes and covering a total annual road distance of almost 41.4 million kilometres. With 1860 employees, the company had an operating income in that year of NOK 1684 million.
Stor-Oslo Lokaltrafikk AS or SL was the public transport administration for bus and ferry transport in Akershus, Norway from 1973 to 2007. SL was organised as a limited company owned by the Akershus county municipality, the City of Oslo, and the Norwegian Ministry of Transport and Communications, with a third each. The company planned, marketed and organised the public transport in Akershus but did not operate any buses or ferries. Instead, it issued contracts to operating companies based on public service obligations (OPS).
Nobina Norge AS is a Norwegian bus company, owned by Nobina, that operates in the counties of Vestland, Akershus and the cities of Oslo and Tromsø.
Bussen Trafikkselskap was a Norwegian bus company that operated the yellow city bus in Kristiansand and surrounding areas Vennesla, Søgne and Songdalen. The company had about 300 employees and operates on contract with Agder Kollektivtrafikk. Nettbuss Sør took over the local buses in Kristiansand 01.01.2011.
Hedmark Trafikk FKF is the public transport administration for bus transport in Hedmark, Norway and owned by the county administration. The company plans, markets and organises the public transport in Hedmark, but does not operate any buses itself. Instead it issues contracts to operating companies based on negotiated contracts.
Opplandstrafikk is the public transport administration for bus transport in Oppland, Norway and is part of the central administration of the Oppland County Municipality. The unit plans, markets and organises the public transport in Oppland, but does not operate any buses itself. Instead it issues contracts to operating companies based on negotiated contracts or public service obligation. Opplandstrafikk has mostly bus traffic, but also one ferry line, Tangen–Horn in Gran municipality. The rail traffic inside Oppland is organised and ticketed by NSB without involvement of Opplandstrafikk.
Skoppum Station is a railway station on the Vestfold Line in the village of Skoppum, in Horten, Norway. Situated 99.54 kilometers (61.85 mi) from Oslo Central Station, it serves an hourly regional service operated by Vy. The station has two platforms and is itself located on an island platform, giving Skoppum a keilbahnhof design. The station building was designed by Balthazar Lange in Swiss chalet style.
Torp Station, also known as Sandefjord Airport Station, is on the Vestfold Line in Sandefjord, Norway. It is served with regional trains operated by Vy. Located close to Sandefjord Airport, Torp, the station is served by a free four-minute shuttle bus service from the station to the airport. The trains operate northwards via towns in Vestfold to Drammen and Oslo and onwards via Oslo Airport, Gardermoen to towns in Hedmark and Oppland. Southwards, the trains serve Sandefjord, Larvik and Grenland.
Østfold Kollektivtrafikk is a county agency responsible for administrating public transport in Østfold, Norway. Created on 1 June 2002 and subordinate Østfold county municipality, it is responsible for route planning, purchase of transport from operators, marketing, customer information related to public transport, as well as issuing permits for taxi, bus and truck transport. Train traffic, which is operated by Vy, is not included in the responsibilities of Østfold Kollektivtrafikk.
Agder Kollektivtrafikk AS is a public transport administrator for the county of Agder, Norway. It is owned by and works on behalf of Agder County Municipality and based in Kristiansand. It does not operate the transport, but has contracts with operators. The four main bus terminals, in Kristiansand, Mandal, Lyngdal and Flekkefjord are operated by Agder Kollektivtrafikk. It also operates the information system for publishing timetables in both Vest-Agder and Aust-Agder.
Vestfold County Municipality is the regional governing administration of Vestfold county in Norway, after the county was re-established in 2024. The county municipality was earlier established on 1 January 1976 when the law was changed to allow elected county councils in Norway. The county municipality was dissolved on 1 January 2020, when Vestfold was merged with the neighboring Telemark county, creating the new Vestfold og Telemark county which was led by the Vestfold og Telemark County Municipality. The administrative seat is located in Tønsberg and the county mayor is Anne Strømøy of the Conservative Party and the chief administrative officer for the county municipality is Toril Eeg.
AtB AS is a public transport manager for Trøndelag and is managed as a corporation. AtB's task is to plan, order, market and develop public transport in the county. Tariffs are set by the county council as part of the budget process. AtB has three main sources of funding: Ticket revenues, grants from the Trøndelag County Municipality and the Environmental Package. AtB has a customer center at Prinsens Gate 41 right beside the bus stop Prinsens Gate P2 in Trondheim. AtB took over as public transport manager for bus traffic in Trondheim in 2010, tram traffic on Gråkallbanen and other bus traffic in Sør-Trøndelag in 2011, speedboat routes in 2012 and 2014, ferries in 2015, and in 2018, the former Nord-Trøndelag was also incorporated after the two counties was merged into the new county of Trøndelag.

The main responsibilities of the county municipality included the overseeing the county's 21 upper secondary schools, county roadways, public transport, dental care, culture, and cultural heritage.
