Vettuva gounder refers to a social group of people in Tamil Nadu, India, who once practised hunting but later adapted to agriculture.
The name seems to have originated from Vettakar which means hunters. They are spread throughout Tamil Nadu. They are known by the names Vettuvar, Veduvar, Vedar, Malaivedan, Vettaikarar, in the different regions of Tamil Nadu.[ citation needed ]
In the southern Tamil Nadu districts of Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari, they are known by the name Vettuvan (not to be confused with Vettuva) or Vetan. In the central Tamil Nadu districts of Thanjavur, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur and Pudukottai, they are known by the name Vettaikarar. In Coimbatore district and in Nilgiris district they are known by the name MalaiVedar. In Erode district, they are referred Vettuva gounder.[ citation needed ]
Gobichettipalayam is the Selection grade municipality in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is the administrative headquarters of Gobichettipalayam taluk. It is situated at the center of the South Indian Peninsula, 37 kilometres (23 mi) from the district headquarters Erode ,47 kilometres (29 mi) north of Tiruppur and 80 kilometres (50 mi) east of Coimbatore. The Polygar Wars or Palaiyakkarar Wars were wars fought between the Polygars (Palaiyakkarars) of the former Tirunelveli Kingdom in Tamil Nadu, India and the British East India Company forces between March 1799 to May 1802 or July 1805. The British finally won after carrying out gruelling protracted jungle campaigns against the Polygar armies. Many lives were lost on both sides and the victory over the Polygars brought large parts of the territories of Tamil Nadu under British control, enabling them to get a strong hold in Southern India.

The film was a bloockbuster hit and ran over 250 days. The film also turned out to be the biggest hit in Vijayakanth's career as well as one of the highest grossing film during that time.
The Korava were one of the tribes of the Madras Presidency during the British Raj in India. They were primarily involved in the salt trade. In 1913 they were classed as a criminal tribe by the British authorities. Today there are an estimated 1.2 million Korava in Tamil Nadu. Mainly this tribe was found in Thanjavur, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Tiruchirapalli, Karur, Perambalur and Pudukottai Districts of Tamil Nadu.

He was earlier the Hononrary Secretary of the South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce. He was involved in politics and closely associated with Periyar, Anna, Kalaignar and MGR. He was the District Secretary of the DMK, and leader of the Dravidian movement in the Kongu region.
Kongu Vellala Goundergal Peravai (KVGP) is a caste organization in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It exists for the Kongu Vellalar Gounder or vellala gounder community.
