Victor L. Robles (born June 15,1945) is an American politician from New York.
Robles was born on June 15,1945,in Fajardo,Puerto Rico. [1] He grew up in Williamsburg,Brooklyn,where he was raised by the Puerto Rican-American community activist Aurea M. Blanco. At a young age,he was asked by his mother to translate for her at neighborhood meetings and protests;through these activities,he caught the attention of former assemblyman and State Supreme Court Justice Gilbert Ramirez,who introduced him to Shirley Chisholm. He went on to work on Chisholm's staff,and entered politics as a Democrat. [2]
Robles was a member of the New York State Assembly from 1979 to 1984,sitting in the 183rd,184th and 185th New York State Legislatures. He was a member of the New York City Council from 1985 to 2001. In October 2001,he was elected by the City Council as City Clerk of New York. [3] He remained in office until July 2007. [4]

Nuyorican is a portmanteau word blending "New York" and "Puerto Rican," referring to Puerto Ricans located in or around New York City,their culture,or their descendants. This term is sometimes used for Puerto Ricans living in other areas in the Northeastern US Mainland outside New York State as well. The term is also used by Islander Puerto Ricans to differentiate those of Puerto Rican descent from the Puerto Rico–born.

Shirley Anita Chisholm was an American politician who,in 1968,became the first black woman to be elected to the United States Congress. Chisholm represented New York's 12th congressional district,a district centered in Bedford–Stuyvesant,Brooklyn for seven terms from 1969 to 1983. In 1972,she became the first black candidate for a major-party nomination for President of the United States and the first woman to run for the Democratic Party's presidential nomination. Throughout her career,she was known for taking "a resolute stand against economic,social,and political injustices," as well as being a strong supporter of black civil rights and women's rights.

Velázquez is the first Puerto Rican woman to serve in the United States Congress.
Bedford–Stuyvesant,colloquially known as Bed–Stuy,is a neighborhood in the northern section of the New York City borough of Brooklyn. Bedford–Stuyvesant is bordered by Flushing Avenue to the north,Classon Avenue to the west,Broadway to the east,and Atlantic Avenue to the south. The main shopping street,Fulton Street,runs east–west the length of the neighborhood and intersects high-traffic north–south streets including Bedford Avenue,Nostrand Avenue,and Stuyvesant Avenue. Bedford–Stuyvesant contains four smaller neighborhoods:Bedford,Stuyvesant Heights,Ocean Hill,and Weeksville. Part of Clinton Hill was once considered part of Bedford–Stuyvesant.

Howard Golden was an American lawyer and politician in the Democratic Party who served as the borough president of Brooklyn from January 3,1977,to December 31,2001. He concurrently served as chairman of the Brooklyn Democratic Party from January 1984 to October 1990. Golden also served on the New York City Council from 1970 until 1976.

Since its founding in 1625 by Dutch traders as New Amsterdam,New York City has been a major destination for immigrants of many nationalities who have formed ethnic enclaves,neighborhoods dominated by one ethnicity. Freed African American slaves also moved to New York City in the Great Migration and the later Second Great Migration and formed ethnic enclaves. These neighborhoods are set apart from the main city by differences such as food,goods for sale,or even language. Ethnic enclaves provide inhabitants security in work and social opportunities,but limit economic opportunities,do not encourage the development of English speaking,and keep immigrants in their own culture.
Oscar Garcia Rivera Sr. was a politician,lawyer and activist. Garcia Rivera made history when in 1937 he became the first Puerto Rican to be elected to public office in the continental United States. In 1956,he also became the first Puerto Rican to be nominated as the Republican candidate for Justice of the City Court.
Chef's Table at Brooklyn Fare is a restaurant in New York City. Originally,the restaurant was located at 200 Schermerhorn Street in Downtown Brooklyn,making it the first New York City restaurant outside Manhattan to receive 3 Michelin stars. In December 2016,the restaurant was relocated to 431 West 37th Street in the Hell's Kitchen neighborhood of Manhattan. On November 7,2023,Michelin announced that it had revoked the restaurant's stars,as it had closed and reopened with a new head chef.
