Vijay Sathya (previously credited as Sathya) is an Indian actor who is known for playing lead roles in several low-key Tamil films during the late 2000s and early 2010s such as Valluvan Vasuki (2008), Sirithal Rasipen (2009), Nellu (2010) and Maharaja (2011). He also played a supporting role in Arumugam (2009). Except for Sirithal Rasipen, the other five of his films were released to negative reviews.

He took a ten year hiatus and returned with Dhil Raja (2024), which started production in 2022.

Career

Sathya was looking for opportunities and met several directors. [1] During one such interaction, he met Marumalarchi Bharathi, who gave him the lead role in Valluvan Vasuki (2008). [1] Regarding his performance in that film a critic wrote that "Sathya still has a long way to go in acting". [2] Regarding his work in his next film Sirithal Rasipen , a critic noted that "Sathya is a bit stiff in some scenes but plays his part of the romantic lover well". [3] He played Bharath's rich friend in Arumugam that same year. [4] In 2010, he starred in Nellu . A critic wrote that "He is effective in the sequences where he takes on the rich and mighty". [4] Another critic wrote that "Sathya is adequate as Kathir". [5] His next films were Maharaja , Soolnilai and the unreleased film Swasame. [6] [7]

He took a break from films and did an acting course in the United States. [8] He returned to films with A. Venkatesh's Dhil Raja (2024) co-starring Sherin Shringar where he plays a fan of Rajinikanth. [9] He developed six packs for his role in the film. [10] [11]

It is a remake of Vasu's Kannada film Apthamitra (2004) which itself is a remake of the Malayalam film Manichitrathazhu (1993) .The film stars Rajinikanth, Prabhu and Jyothika along with an ensemble supporting cast, including Vadivelu, Nayanthara, Nassar and Sheela. It revolves around a woman who suffers from dissociative identity disorder that affects a family, and a psychiatrist who intends to solve the case while risking his life.

It is a remake of the Malayalam film Thenmavin Kombath (1994). The film revolves around a zamindar and his worker falling in love with the same woman who, unknown to the zamindar, loves the worker exclusively.

It stars Rajinikanth in the titular lead, with Sivaji Ganesan in his penultimate release, Ramya Krishnan and Soundarya sharing other lead roles while, Lakshmi, Radha Ravi, Nassar, Abbas and Preetha play supporting roles. The soundtrack album and background score were composed by A. R. Rahman. The plot revolves around the titular character, Aarupadayappan, and his family being targeted in a generations-long revenge by his cousin Neelambari, a narcissistic woman who was left humiliated after Padayappa rejected her love proposal as he was in love with her good-natured home worker Vasundhara.

A remake of the 1987 Hindi film Khudgarz, itself based on Jeffrey Archer's 1979 novel Kane and Abel, it stars Rajinikanth, Khushbu and Sarath Babu with Radha Ravi, Nizhalgal Ravi and Manorama in supporting roles. The film revolves around Annaamalai, a poor milkman, and Ashok, a wealthy hotelier, who have been friends since childhood, a friendship opposed by Ashok's father who attempts to create a rift between the two.

Kuselan is a 2008 Indian Tamil-language dramedy film directed by P. Vasu. An official remake of the Malayalam film Kadha Parayumbol (2007), it was produced by Pushpa Kandaswamy, Aswani Dutt and G. P. Vijayakumar in two languages. Kuselan stars Rajinikanth in an extended guest appearance with Pasupathy and Meena. It also stars Vadivelu and Livingston in supporting roles. Valluvan Vasuki is a 2008 Indian Tamil-language film starring Sathya, Shwetha Bandekar, Ranjith and Ponvannan and directed by K. Bharathi. The story is about the Konar dynasty and much of the shooting was done in villages bordering the Kollidam River in Thanjavur district.

The film stars Bharath and Priyamani, while Ramya Krishnan, Saranya Mohan, Sathya, and Karunas play supporting roles. The music was composed by Deva. This movie was based on the Rajinikanth film Annaamalai (1992), also directed by Suresh Krishna. The film released on 25 September 2009 and was panned by critics as well as audience.

The Vijay for Best Costume Designer is given by STAR Vijay as part of its annual Vijay Awards ceremony for Tamil (Kollywood) films.

Kochadaiiyaan is the soundtrack album composed by A. R. Rahman to the motion capture animated Tamil film of the same name directed by Soundarya R. Ashwin. The original version as well as the dubbed Telugu version of the soundtrack was released on 9 March 2014. The Hindi version was released online on Eros Now on 13 March 2014. Upon its release, the soundtrack became the first Tamil film music album to trend on Twitter and top the iTunes India charts.

Bhaskar, Lakshmy Ramakrishnan, Manobala, Kalpana, Mayilsamy, Lollu Sabha Balaji, Sathyan, Ansiba Hassan, Thyagu, and Shanmugarajan, amongst others, in supporting roles. The film was released on 3 July 2009 and is a remake of the Malayalam film Sathyabhamakkoru Premalekhanam (1996).

Sasikumar, Simran, Trisha, Megha Akash, Malavika Mohanan, Mahendran, Bobby Simha, Guru Somasundaram, Aadukalam Naren, Munishkanth and Sananth. It follows Kaali, a newly hired hostel warden, who gets dragged into war after an old enemy, Singaaram, resurfaces.
