Vijayakumar's father was a film producer who produced Malayalam-language films. He pursued a bachelors in economics at the Mahatma Gandhi College in Thiruvananthapuram.[ citation needed ]
Vijayakumar was married to Binu Daniel. The couple later got divorced. They have two daughters, including actress Arthana Binu. Arthana debuted as an actress in the 2016 film Mudhugauv alongside Gokul Suresh, son of actor Suresh Gopi. Suresh Gopi is an Indian actor, playback singer, television presenter and politician who is currently serving as the Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas and the Ministry of Tourism since June 2024.
