Smith grew up in Pahokee, Florida and played high school football at Pahokee High School. He totaled 4,677 yards and 58 touchdowns at Pahokee, including more than 2,000 rushing yards and 29 touchdowns as a senior.[1]
University of Michigan
2009 season
Smith accepted a football scholarship to attend the University of Michigan. As a freshman in 2009, Smith appeared in eight games for the Wolverines. He gained 166 yards on 17 carries against Delaware State on October 17, 2009. He had 276 rushing yards, 82 receiving yards and three touchdowns in 2009.[2]
2010 season

As a sophomore in 2010, Smith led the Michigan running backs with 601 rushing yards. (Quarterback Denard Robinson led the team with 1,702 rushing yards.) Smith also had 130 receiving yards and scored 7 touchdowns.[3]
2011 season
As a junior in 2011, Smith ran for 118 yards against Eastern Michigan on September 17, the second 100-yard rushing game of his collegiate career.[4][5][6][7] After the Eastern Michigan game, head coach Brady Hoke named Smith as the Wolverines starting running back, adding that Smith had "earned that right."[8][9][10][11] Against Minnesota on October 1, 2011, Smith became the first football player in Michigan history to score rushing, passing and receiving touchdowns in the same game. He was the first Division I FBS player to accomplish the feat since 2009.[1][12][13][14][15][16] Smith's touchdown pass came on a 17-yard throw to sophomore receiver Drew Dileo.[17] During the 2011 season, Smith had 296 rushing yards, 142 receiving yards, 17 passing yards, and five touchdowns (two rushing, two receiving touchdowns, and one passing).[2]
2012 season
Smith saw reduced playing time during the 2012 season. In the third game of the season, Smith scored two touchdowns on three carries against UMass, averaging 6.7 yards per carry.[18] In his final game at Michigan Stadium, a 42-17 victory over Iowa, Smith scored a touchdown on an 18-yard catch and run.[19] Through the first 11 games of the 2012 season, Smith gained 88 rushing yards and scored three touchdowns.[20]Jadeveon Clowney's tackle of Smith in the 2013 Outback Bowl, which resulted in a fumble and sent Smith's helmet flying five yards downfield, became an Internet sensation as it was one of the most brutal hits of all time. Smith said of the hit: "I couldn't duck or try anything. My head wasn't even down and that's why my helmet popped off."[21][22]

Leon Michael Hart is an American football coach and former player. Hart played college football as a running back at the University of Michigan, from 2004 to 2007, and holds the Michigan Wolverines career rushing record with 5,040 yards. He was selected by the Indianapolis Colts in 2008, and played three seasons in the NFL. Hart has worked as an assistant football coach at the University of Michigan, Syracuse University, Western Michigan University, Eastern Michigan University, and Indiana University Bloomington.
Kevin Lee Grady, Jr. is a former American football running back. He completed his athletic eligibility for the Michigan Wolverines football team during the 2009 NCAA Division I FBS football season. He began his Michigan career as a tailback, but was converted to fullback. He has also played for the Chicago Slaughter of the Indoor Football League.
The 2004 Michigan Wolverines football team was an American football team that represented the University of Michigan as a member of the Big Ten Conference during the 2004 NCAA Division I-A football season. In their tenth season under head coach Lloyd Carr, the Wolverines compiled a 9–3 record, outscored opponents by a total of 370 to 279, and tied with Iowa for the Big Ten championship. Having beaten Iowa during the regular season, the Wolverines received the Big Ten's berth in the 2005 Rose Bowl where they lost to No. 6 Texas by a 38–37 score.

Brandon Ricardo Minor is a former American football running back. He played college football at Michigan from 2006 to 2009. He was signed by the Chicago Bears as an undrafted free agent in 2010, but was released during the final cuts and played on practice squads in 2010 for the New Orleans Saints and Indianapolis Colts.

Michigan played its home games at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor, Michigan and competed in the Big Ten Conference. The season was the first since the renovation of Michigan Stadium, begun in 2007, was completed. The Wolverines were led by third-year head coach Rich Rodriguez. After its week 10 win against Illinois, Michigan became bowl eligible for the first time since 2007, and later accepted a bid to play in the Gator Bowl against Mississippi State on January 1, 2011, losing 52–14. The Wolverines finished the season sixth out of 120 Division I FBS teams in total offense, 110th in total defense and 112th in passing defense. Michigan finished with an overall record of 7–6, 3–5 in Big Ten play. After the season, head coach Rich Rodriguez and his staff were dismissed on January 5, 2011.
Denard Xavier Robinson is an American former professional football player and a former staff member for the Jacksonville Jaguars, Jacksonville University and the University of Michigan. He played four seasons as a running back in the National Football League (NFL), and was a college football All-American for the Michigan Wolverines as a quarterback. Robinson was selected by the Jaguars in the 2013 NFL draft.

Hemingway was the 2010 and 2011 Big Ten Conference leader in yards per reception, ranking third in all of Division I Football Bowl Subdivision as a senior. He received 2011 All-Big Ten honorable mention and was the 2012 Sugar Bowl Most Outstanding Player.
Jeremy Jermaine Gallon is a former American football wide receiver. He played college football at the University of Michigan, finishing second all-time in school history in receptions and receiving yards. He also has the school record for the most receiving yards in a season, 1,373, and the Big Ten Conference record for the most receiving yards in a single game, 369. Gallon was selected by the New England Patriots in the seventh round of the 2014 NFL draft. He played professionally in seven other football leagues after his NFL stint.

It featured the South Carolina Gamecocks from the Southeastern Conference (SEC) versus the Michigan Wolverines from the Big Ten Conference. South Carolina won with a final score of 33–28.
Derrick Shaqueill Green is a former American football running back. He was rated by Rivals.com and Scout.com as the No. 1 running back in the country and by Rivals.com as the No. 8 overall player in the Class of 2013. He played for the Michigan Wolverines football team from 2013 to 2015, gaining 898 yards and scoring seven touchdowns on 212 rushing carries. In January 2016, Michigan granted a transfer release to Green, allowing him to play for another program after graduating in the spring of 2016.
