Baranwal was born on 10 July 1960 in Deoria, Uttar Pradesh. He was educated at Maharaja Agrasen Inter College in Deoria. Baranwal archived B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D. degree in Lucknow University. [1]
Baranwal is a part of the larger Bania community of northern India. They originated in north India in the regions today comprising Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand and West Bengal. However, today they have a disapora spread across India and the world.

Pal Chair and JC Bose National Fellow at ICAR-National Institute for Plant Biotechnology, Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi. He was born in a small village Rajapur in the Mau District of Uttar Pradesh, India. He is known for his research in the area of plant genomics, genetics, molecular breeding and biotechnology, particularly for his contribution in the decoding of rice, tomato, wheat, pigeon pea, jute and mango genomes and understanding of wheat seed storage proteins and their effect on wheat quality. He has made significant advances in comparative analysis of rice and wheat genomes and mapping of genes for yield, salt tolerance and basmati quality traits in rice. He is one of the highest cited agricultural scientists from India for the last five years.

Sasanka Chandra Bhattacharyya was an Indian natural product chemist and the director of Bose Institute, Kolkata. He was known for his studies on structures and configurations of terpenoids and synthesis of Vetiver Oil and natural musk. He was the vice-president of the Indian National Science Academy and was an elected fellow of the academy as well as the Indian Academy of Sciences. He is known for his contribution to the development of remote sensing applications in agriculture, including crop forecasting and irrigation management. Shahid Jameel is an Indian virologist and academic. Dr. Jameel is the Sultan Qaboos bin Said Fellow at Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies and Research Fellow, Green Templeton College, University of Oxford. He serves as the Principal Investigator for the Centre's project on Public Health, Science and Technology in Muslim societies. Previously he was the director of the Trivedi School of Biosciences since its inception in the year 2020 at Ashoka University. Rakesh Kumar Jain is an Indian virologist and the former head and coordinator of the Microbial Type Culture Collection (MTCC), a national research centre located at the Institute of Microbial Technology campus. He is known for his research in virology. His studies have been documented by way of a number of articles and the online article repository of John Wiley & Sons has listed several of them. Besides, he has edited one book, A Century of Plant Virology in India, an 805-page volume compiling the research done in the field of plant virology in India during the last 100 years. Vinay Kumar Nandicoori is an Indian immunologist, biotechnologist and currently the director of Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology, India. He is known for his studies on the kinase-mediated signaling networks in Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the causative pathogen of tuberculosis. Holder of a master's degree in biotechnology from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay and a PhD from the Indian Institute of Science, Nandicoori did his post doctoral work the University of Virginia and Texas A & M University.

Manoj Prasad is an Indian plant geneticist, molecular biologist and working as a Professor in Department of Genetics at Delhi University. Previously, he worked as a Senior Scientist and JC Bose National Fellow at the National Institute of Plant Genome Research (NIPGR) from 2004 to 2023. Known for his research on the stress biology of plants and virology, he is an elected fellow of the Indian National Science Academy, the National Academy of Sciences, India, the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences and the Indian Virological Society and was a recipient of the Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship. The Department of Biotechnology of the Government of India awarded him the National Bioscience Award for Career Development, one of the highest Indian science awards, for his contributions to biosciences, in 2014.
