Virginia Mabiza, is a Zimbabwean lawyer and politician in Zimbabwe. In 2018 she was permanent secretary at the Ministry of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs.
Mabiza qualified as a lawyer with an honours degree from the University of Zimbabwe. Her master's degree in leadership and change management is the Leeds Metropolitan University. [1]
In 2016 she was involved with threatening #thisflag protestors. The protests inspired by Pastor involved a social media-inspired strike. Promise Mkwananzi called on protestors to disregard Mabiza who said that the sale or use of the Zimbabwean flag was illegal. [2]
In 2018 she was permanent secretary at the Ministry Of Justice, Legal And Parliamentary Affairs, where Ziyambi Ziyambi was the responsible minister. [3]
Mabiza was involved with delivering the President's promise to the victims of the Gukurahundi massacres. Mabiza said that she would consult with victim's relatives to plan for exhumations and reburials. She would assist with missing birth and death certificates although the actions may require new laws to permit the proposed action. [4]
In 2019 she announced that Zimbabwe was to host an international (WIPO) intellectual property conference. [5] In 2023, Mabiza became the first female Attorney-General of Zimbabwe. [6]
The politics of Zimbabwe occurs in a society deeply divided along lines of race, ethnicity, gender and geography. The ZANU–PF party has historically been dominant in Zimbabwe politics. He is from the Ndebele Royal inner circle, his great-great-grandfather, Masonginyoka arrived from Transvaal with Mzilikazi as a personal doctor to the King. Tshokomela, his fathers father was also King Lobengula's doctor who gave rise to his father Maphahla, also nicknamed Mafa Sigodo meaning the "heir" hence the name Mafa or Ilifa.
Karin Maria Bruzelius is a Swedish-born Norwegian supreme court justice and former president of the Norwegian Association for Women's Rights. She was the Chairperson of Parliament of Zimbabwe's Portfolio Committee on Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs. She was a member of the Parliamentary Legal Committee and the Portfolio Committee on Local Government Rural and Urban Development. During Zimbabwe's constitution making process of 2009 to 2013 she was a member of the 25 member Parliamentary Select Committee (COPAC) on the new Constitution established by the political settlement Global Political Agreement. She served as its Spokesperson and Co-Vice Chairperson.
