Vivek Sahai is a transportation and management expert in India. He is a 1973 batch Indian Railway Traffic Service officer. He was appointed as Chairman Railway Board from 01-06-2010 to 30-06-2011 and ex-officio Principal Secretary to the Government of India. [1] [2] Additionally, he was the Chairman at Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited, and served on the National Transport Development Policy Committee for the Government of India. [3] In the past, he served as a Director of Coal India Limited from July 9, 2007 to August 20, 2008 and Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd until July 26, 2011. He has also served as Director at Pipavav Railway Corporation Limited.

He is particularly lauded for handling the Railways response to the Mumbai serial blasts in 2006 [4]

After retirement, he was recalled in 2013 to serve as an adviser to the railway minister to help steer large projects. [5]

Sahai is a distinguished fellow at the Observer Research Foundation.

The Konkan Railway is one of the 19 railway zones in India with its headquarters at CBD Belapur in Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. The first passenger train ran on Konkan railway tracks on 20 March 1993, between Udupi and Mangalore. During its initial years of operation in the mountainous Konkan region, a number of accidents prompted Konkan Railway to implement new technology. Anti-collision devices, the Sky Bus and roll-on/roll-off are several of the railway's innovations. The 756.25 km (469.91 mi) long railway line connects the states of Maharashtra, Goa and Karnataka. The first train on the completed track was sent off on 26 January 1998.

Syamal Bhushan Ghosh Dastidar is an ex-Indian Civil Servant, former Member Traffic of the Railway Board and Ex-Officio Secretary to the Government of India. In 2009, he was awarded the Padma Shri, India's fourth highest civilian award in the civil service category. He was the only one who is felicitated with this honor in 2009 in the Civil Service category.
