Vladimir Burdun is a sports administrator and former karate player.

Biography

Burdun was born in 1972 in Kurgan, USSR. [1] He holds a diploma as a boxing coach from the Kurgan State University of Physical Culture. [1]

Burdun settled in Dubai in the mid-1990s. [1] He started various businesses, including Art Media in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and later became known for promoting Thai boxing in the region. [2] [3] He is a former karate champion and officiated matches in the 2000s organized by International Federation Muaythai Amateur (IFMA). [4] [5] In 2005, he founded Concept Martial Arts Professionals, a combat martial arts team based in the UAE. [6] In 2006, he coordinated the Karate Masters Cup in the UAE. [7] He is also the founder of Dubai Martial Arts Academy and served as its president until 2017. [8] [9] [10]

In November 2018, Burdun became the president of the Emirates Hockey League (EHL). [2] [11] Previously, he had led the Mighty Camels club in the UAE for four years, a team that was originally established by Emirates airline pilots. [12] He was also associated with the Mighty Bears team. [12] During his association with both teams, he emphasized understanding hockey, which began to gain traction in the Emirates in the early 2000s. [12]

Burdun has been the founder and president of the Emirates Hockey League (EHL) since November 2018. [2] [1]

Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum is an Emirati royal and politician who serves as minister of finance of the United Arab Emirates, deputy ruler of Dubai and chairman of Dubai Media Incorporated. He was named as deputy ruler in February 2008 when his elder brother Hamdan was made crown prince. He served as deputy ruler alongside his uncle Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum until the latter's death in March 2021. Since then until 2023, he was the sole deputy ruler under his father Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum's reign. There are sporting events held in United Arab Emirates.

The Emirates Hockey League (EHL) is the national ice hockey league of the United Arab Emirates. The league is governed by the International Ice Hockey Federation and founded in 2009 by the country’s Winter Sports Federation and the Emirates Olympic Committee. The Scorpions and Mighty Camels are composed of expatriate players, including Canadians, working in the U.A.E., while the other clubs consist of mostly Emirati players who form the United Arab Emirates national team.

The Hamdan Sports Complex is a multi-purpose sports arena in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The arena was completed in summer 2010. It hosted the 2010 FINA World Swimming Championships, in which 153 countries participated. It also hosted the final games of the 2014 FIBA Under-17 World Championship and the 2015 FIVB Volleyball Men's U23 World Championship. The stadium will host international aquatic events. It has total capacity of 15,000 spectators. Beside aquatic events, such as swimming, it will also accommodate badminton, basketball, karate, swimming, tennis, volleyball and water polo.

Ice Hockey Association is one of the few sports associations recognized by the United Arab Emirates government.

The Emirati Chess Championship is organized by the United Arab Emirates Chess Federation. It is one of the major national chess competitions of the United Arab Emirates held at standard time controls, the other being the UAE President's Cup, which has been held annually since 1994.
