Serravalle is one of the nine castelli of San Marino. It has a population of 10,878 inhabitants and an area of 10.53 km2. It is both the most populated and densely populated municipality in San Marino, and contains its largest settlement (Dogana). Serravalle is located on the edge of the Apennine Mountains.
The 2007–08 Campionato Sammarinese di Calcio season was the twenty-third since its establishment. The regular season started on September 21, 2007 and ended on April 20, 2008. The playoff competition, in which the top three clubs from each girone competed for the national title and qualification for the first qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League next season, started on May 7, 2008 and ended with the final on June 3, 2008. S.S. Murata successfully defended their title for the second time, winning their third straight national title, and winning qualification, beating out Juvenes/Dogana in the final.

The volleyball tournaments at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro was played between 6 and 21 August. 24 volleyball teams and 48 beach volleyball teams, total 386 athletes, participated in the tournament. The indoor volleyball competition took place at Ginásio do Maracanãzinho in Maracanã, and the beach volleyball tournament was held at Copacabana Beach, in the temporary Copacabana Stadium.

Tre Penne are the defending league champions, having won their first ever Sammarinese championship last season. Tre Penne retained their title, defeating ten-man AC Libertas 5–3 on penalties in a repeat of the previous year's play-off final.

The 2019 Asian Men's Volleyball Championship was the twentieth staging of the Asian Men's Volleyball Championship, a biennial international volleyball tournament organised by the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) with Islamic Republic of Iran Volleyball Federation (IRIVF). The tournament was held in Tehran, Iran from 13 to 21 September 2019.
The CEV Champions League was the highest level of European club volleyball in the 2017–18 season and the 58th edition. The Turkish club VakıfBank Istanbul won its fourth overall and second consecutive title. The Romanian club CSM Volei Alba Blaj won the silver medal and Italian Imoco Volley Conegliano claimed the bronze medal. The Turkish Gözde Kırdar Sonsırma from VakıfBank Istanbul, who will retire, was awarded Most Valuable Player.
The 2017 European Beach Volleyball Championship was held from August 16 to August 20, 2017 in Jurmala, Latvia. The draw consisted of 32 men's & 32 women's teams, with 100,000 EUR prize money per gender. A 2,800 stadium was purpose built on Majori beach, with near capacity for most games. EuroBeachVolley awarded as “Sports Event of the Year” from hand Raimonds Vējonis.
The volleyball competition at the 2019 Games of the Small States of Europe was held at the Mediterranean Sport Center, Budva from 28 May to 1 June 2019. The beach volleyball competition was held at the Slovenska Plaza, Budva from 28 to 31 May 2019.

The 2020 European Beach Volleyball Championship is a 2020 edition of European Beach Volleyball Championship which is a unisex competition of national teams which took place from 15 to 20 September 2020 in Jūrmala in Latvia. The draw consisted of 32 men's & 32 women's teams, with 100,000 EUR prize money per gender.
