Vuyiswa Ramokgopa (born Vuyiswa Mutshekwane) [1] is a South African politician,entrepreneur and businessperson who is the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Agriculture and Rural Development and a member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature for RISE Mzansi,of which she is the national chairperson. She has worked in the retail,marketing and design,events management and property investment industries. [2] She is also the chairperson of the National Property Practitioners Council. [3]
Vuyiswa Ramokgopa was born in Johannesburg,Gauteng. She is one of three children and was raised by her parents,Leslie Mongezi Mutshekwane,a retired actor who starred in the films Goodbye Bafana (2007),Damned River (1989),and Mercenary Fighters (1988),and Gloria Mosia,an entrepreneur who is the Managing Director of Sonocreatives Pty Ltd. She attended primary school at Micklefield School in Rondebosch,Cape Town,and St. Cyprian's School in Vredehoek,Cape Town,and went on to attend secondary school at the International School of Dakar in Senegal. She then came back to South Africa to complete high school at St. Mary's DSG in Pretoria and Crawford College in Sandton. [4]
Vuyiswa Ramokgopa studied a Bachelor of Commerce in Politics,Philosophy and Economics at the University of Cape Town and completed Executive Programs at GIBS and Oxford University. [1]
Ramokgopa was the Sales and Marketing Manager at KISUA,a unique African fashion company,and the director and co-founder of The Other Girls,an events and lifestyle company,from 2012 to 2016 [ citation needed ]. She is the former Chief Executive Officer of the South African Institute of Black Property Practitioners (SAIBPP) [5] and founded AWiP Investments,a majority African women-owned and managed broad-based property investment fund based in South Africa. In April 2023,Ramokgopa co-founded the social democratic political party Rise Mzansi,becoming its first national chaiperson. The party contested the 2024 South African general election. Ramokgopa was initially the party's National Coordinator before becoming their candidate for Premier of Gauteng. [7] [8]
Rise Mzansi won one seat in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature,and Ramokgopa was selected to represent the party in the legislature. [9] The ANC had lost its majority in the province and ANC premier Panyaza Lesufi then sought to form a "Provincial Government of Unity" with other parties.
On 3 July 2024,Lesufi announced his Executive Council which saw Ramokgopa appointed as the MEC for Rural Development and Agriculture. [10]
In her new role,Ramokgopa said that she will prioritize ending hunger in the province,reducing food waste,and ensuring sustainable,localised production of food. She plans to focus on growing the base of small-scale farmers and supporting the urban farming economy in Gauteng. Ramokgopa emphasised the need for cross-departmental collaboration and cooperation at the provincial,national,and local levels to achieve these goals. [11]
Despite her management experience,stakeholders in agriculture in the province have noted that the fact that she did not have background in the sector may be a challenge,while expressing readiness to work with her to "solve the problems facing agriculture in Gauteng". [11]
Vuyiswa Ramokgopa is married to Matome Mathabatha Ramokgopa. She has three children. [12]

Andrek "Panyaza" Lesufi is a South African politician who was appointed the seventh Premier of Gauteng in October 2022. He was previously Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Education in the Gauteng provincial government between May 2014 and October 2022,with the exception of a two-day stint as MEC for Finance in May 2019. Simultaneously,he was acting MEC for Social Development between November 2019 and June 2020.
Thuliswa Winlove Nkabinde-Khawe was a South African politician and a party member of the African National Congress (ANC). She was elected a Member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature in May 2009 and was a long-serving member of the Social Development committee in the legislature,prior to her appointment as Gauteng MEC for Social Development in May 2019. She was an MEC until her death just over five months later.
Tasneem Motara is a South African politician who has been the Gauteng MEC for Human Settlements since July 2024 and a member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature since May 2019. She was the MEC for Infrastructure Development and Property Management between May 2019 and October 2022 and,before her appointment to her current position,the MEC for Economic Development from October 2022 until June 2024. From May 2014 to May 2019,she represented Gauteng in the National Council of Provinces. She served as the chief whip of the provincial delegation. Motara is a member of the African National Congress.
Lebogang Isaac Maile is a South African politician currently serving as Gauteng's Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Finance and Economic Development. A member of the African National Congress (ANC),he has served in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature since May 2009 and in the Gauteng Executive Council since 2010.
Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko is a South African politician and a member of the African National Congress. She has served as the Gauteng MEC for Health and Wellness since October 2022. She was the MEC for Finance and e-Government from May 2019 until October 2022. Nkomo-Ralehoko was elected to the Gauteng Provincial Legislature in June 1999.
Audrey Winifred Morakane Ketlhoilwe Mosupyoe,known as Morakane Mosupyoe,is a South African politician serving as the speaker of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature since June 2024. She was the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Economic Development,Agriculture and Environment from October 2019 to December 2020,the MEC for Social Development from December 2020 until October 2022 and the MEC for Sports,Arts,Culture and Recreation from October 2022 until June 2024. Prior to her election to the Gauteng Provincial Legislature in 2019,she served as a Tshwane city councillor. Mosupyoe is a member of the African National Congress.
Matome Kopano Chiloane is a South African politician who has been the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Education and Sports,Arts,Culture and Recreation in Gauteng since July 2024. He previously served as the MEC for Education from October 2022 to June 2024. He has been a Member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature since March 2018,representing the African National Congress. He formerly served as the chairperson of the education committee in the legislature. Chiloane is also the provincial chairperson of the African National Congress Youth League.
Mbali Dawn Hlophe is a South African politician who served as the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Sport,Arts,Culture and Recreation from May 2019 to October 2022 and then as the MEC for Social Development from October 2022 until June 2024. A member of the African National Congress,she has been a Member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature since May 2019.
Phalama Jacob Mamabolo is a South African politician of the African National Congress. He was elected to the Gauteng Provincial Legislature in the 2014 election,and was appointed Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Human Settlement and COGTA. He served in this position until his appointment as the MEC for Infrastructure Development in February 2016. Mamabolo became the MEC for Roads and Transport in 2019. In October 2022,Mamabolo was promoted to MEC for Finance. Following the 2024 provincial election,he was appointed MEC for Infrastructure Development and Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs.
Faith Nonhlanhla Mazibuko is a South African politician from Gauteng. She is the current Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Social Development. She has been a Member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature from 1996 to 2004 and currently from 2009. Mazibuko is a member of the African National Congress.
Kedibone Pauline Diale-Tlabela is a South African politician. She was elected to the Gauteng Provincial Legislature in 2019 as a member of the African National Congress. In October 2022,she was appointed the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) responsible for Transport and Logistics before becoming the MEC for Roads and Transport in July 2024.

He was also the Deputy Provincial Secretary of the Gauteng branch of his political party,the African National Congress,from 1998 to 2010.
