WADS (690 AM) is a radio station licensed to Ansonia, Connecticut, owned by Radio Amor, Inc with a sale from Sanabia Kellerman Media that is pending. The station serves the Greater Bridgeport and New Haven area with a Spanish language Christian radio format.

By day, WADS is powered by 3,200 watts, on 690 AM by nighttime to protect for reserved Canadian station CKGM AM, WADS must sign off the air, to prevent and avoid interference.

History

WADS began broadcasting in 1956 from studios in Ansonia's Capital Theater building.

The WADS call letters stood for its service area: Ansonia, Derby, Shelton/Seymour. Local Focus: It served as the "Voice of the Valley," providing local news, editorials (by owner Sydney E. Byrnes), and coverage of events like the 1955 flood. Personalities: Key figures included Sydney E. Byrnes, Wes Hobby (midday music), Frank (marine reporter), and later GM Don Richeson. Formats: Featured local music shows (40s/50s), ethnic programs (Polish, Irish, German), and even cable music in the early 80s.

Losing of its transmission site

WADS went silent on August 12, 2022, due to losing its transmitter site. [2] On August 31, 2024, the station resumed operations at a temporary transmitter site in Derby and switched to a oldies format branded as HitOldies in January 2025 and continued a oldies format until July, resumed back to Radio Amor, for a little bit and went silent again on August 29, 2025, and went back on the air again on September 5, 2025. The station said that it was gonna broadcast a Adult contemporary and oldies around February or April 2026, rebranding the station with a new format.
