A clear-channel station is an AM radio station in North America that has the highest protection from interference from other stations, particularly concerning night-time skywave propagation. The system exists to ensure the viability of cross-country or cross-continent radio service, and is enforced through a series of treaties and statutory laws. Now known as Class A stations since 1982, they are occasionally still referred to by their former classifications of Class I-A, Class I-B, or Class I-N. The term "clear-channel" is used most often in the context of North America and the Caribbean, where the concept originated.
WKNC-FM is North Carolina State University's student-run, non-commercial college radio station broadcasting from Raleigh, North Carolina in the United States. Broadcasting with an effective radiated power of 25,000 watts, its signal covers much of the Research Triangle and outlying areas. WAGL was a radio station broadcasting an oldies format that was licensed to Lancaster, South Carolina, United States. The station was owned by B. L. "Len" Phillips Jr., under the name Palmetto Broadcasting System, Inc. B. L. Phillips Jr. died September 1, 2014 at the age of 77. The station's license was turned in to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) on November 2, 2014, and cancelled by the FCC on May 7, 2015. The station's website is defunct. Because it shared the same frequency as "clear channel" station WFME in New York City, WAGL only operated during the daytime hours. Its transmitter site was located near the Catawba River, nearly 10 miles from its studio site at 101 S. Woodland Drive.
KBED is a radio station serving the Beaumont-Port Arthur area with a sports format. It is under ownership of Cumulus Media, and is simulcast with sister station KIKR AM 1450 Beaumont, Texas. Its studios are located on South Eleventh Street in Beaumont and its transmitter is located south of Vidor, Texas.
KIHU is a Catholic radio formatted radio station licensed to Tooele, Utah, United States. The station is owned by Relevant Radio, Inc.. The station has a construction permit from the FCC for a power increase to 50,000 watts Daytime, 42,000 watts Critical Hours and 194 watts night. The facilities authorized by the Construction Permit were built in 2004 and the station is operating under "Program Test Authority" with those facilities. Not only does the station have a construction permit to change its power, it also has an application to move its city of license to Magna, near where its current transmitter lies. The change in city of license will make possible the upgrading of the station from Class "D" to Class "B."
