Waarre is a locality in the Shire of Corangamite of the Australian state of Victoria. It is about nine kilometres northeast of Port Campbell.
Waarre is the site of two natural gas processing facilities. The Iona Gas Plant is owned by QIC and processes gas from the offshore Casino Gas Field. The Otway Gas Plant processes gas from the offshore Geographe and Thylacine gas fields in the Otway Basin. [2] [3] It was owned by Lattice Energy, a subsidiary of Origin Energy. Origin sold Lattice to Beach Energy in 2017. Forty percent of the Victorian operations were then on-sold to OG Energy in 2018. [4] [5] The other significant industry in the area is farming.

The Gas and Fuel Corporation of Victoria (G&FC) was a government-owned monopoly supplier of household gas in Victoria, Australia. It was established in 1950 and took over two of the three main gas utilities in Melbourne – the Metropolitan Gas Company and the Brighton Gas Company. As part of the conversion to natural gas, in 1971 the corporation acquired the Geelong Gas Company, one of only two remaining private gas companies in Victoria at the time. The Ballarat Gas Company closed at the time. The G&FC was wound up in June 1995.

The SEA Gas pipeline(South East Australia Gas pipeline) is a 687 km natural gas pipeline from the Iona Gas Plant near Port Campbell in Victoria to the Pelican Point Power Station at Port Adelaide. It connects Adelaide's gas supply to sources from Victoria's Otway Basin, thus increasing the security of natural gas supply to Adelaide. The pipeline is owned and operated by South East Australia Gas Pty Ltd who are owned in a 50-50 partnership by APA Group (Australia) and the Retail Employees Superannuation Trust.
Energy in Victoria, Australia is generated using a number of fuels or technologies, including coal, natural gas and renewable energy sources. Brown coal is the main primary energy source for the generation of electricity in the state, accounting for about 85% of electricity generation in 2008. 2 emissions produced from fossil fuels in electricity, industrial processes which prevents CO
2 from entering the atmosphere. Carbon capture and storage is also used to sequester CO
2 filtered out of natural gas from certain natural gas fields. While typically the CO
2 has no value after being stored, Enhanced Oil Recovery uses CO
2 to increase yield from declining oil fields.

The Otway Basin is a northwest trending sedimentary basin located along the southern coast of Australia. The basin covers an area of 150,000 square kilometers and spans from southeastern South Australia to southwestern Victoria, with 80% lying offshore in water depths ranging from 50-3,000 meters. Otway represents a passive margin rift basin and is one of a series of basins located along the Australian Southern Rift System. The basin dates from the late Jurassic to late Cretaceous periods and formed by multi-stage rifting during the breakup of Gondwana and the separation of the Antarctic and Australian plates. The basin contains a significant amount of natural gas and is a current source of commercial extraction.
