Walt Disney's It's a Small World of Fun! is a series of DVDs by Walt Disney Home Entertainment. Each release would feature around one hour of Disney animated short films with international settings. As opposed to the chronological nature of the Walt Disney Treasures line, each release would feature various cartoons in no particular order. The series featured two waves of releases, on May 16, 2006, and February 13, 2007.

Reception

Volume 2 is described as follows by Jamie S. Rich "Like the first volume, all but one of the cartoons ("Crazy with the Heat" with Donald Duck and Goofy) are available on other discs. Given that they are all really strong selections, however, makes the disc a little more desirable." [2]

A review of vol. 4 at DVD Talk, wrote, " if you're looking for a great way to introduce a small child to vintage Disney animation, and you don't particularly care about being a completist, by all means, I recommend buying (it) " [3] Another review of the volume lamented the "unnecessary frugality (of) the package." [4]

Conceding, as did all reviewers, that "The Disney folks display true entrepreneurial genius when it comes to repurposing their precious library of classic animation.", the Video Librarian gave "Volume 1" 3 stars out of 4, and recommended the compilation, particularly for the presence of "Grievance of a Starmarker", "a charming, anti-pollution short (...), based on an award-winning Japanese story, and never seen outside Japan". Plane Crazy is a 1928 American animated short film directed by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks. The cartoon, released by the Walt Disney Studios, was the first appearance of Mickey Mouse and his girlfriend Minnie Mouse, and was originally a silent film. It was given a test screening to a theater audience on May 15, 1928, and an executive from Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer saw the film, but failed to pick up a distributor. Later that year, Disney released Mickey's first sound cartoon, Steamboat Willie, which was an enormous success; Plane Crazy was officially released as a sound cartoon on March 17, 1929. It was the fourth Mickey film to be given a wide release after Steamboat Willie, The Gallopin' Gaucho and The Barn Dance (1929).

Silly Symphony is an American animated series of 75 musical short films produced by Walt Disney Productions from 1929 to 1939. As the series name implies, the Silly Symphonies were originally intended as whimsical accompaniments to pieces of music. As such, the films usually did not feature continuing characters, unlike the Mickey Mouse shorts produced by Disney at the same time. The series is notable for its innovation with Technicolor and the multiplane motion picture camera, as well as its introduction of the character Donald Duck making his first appearance in the Silly Symphony cartoon The Wise Little Hen in 1934. Classic Cartoon Favorites is a series of DVDs by Walt Disney Home Entertainment. Each release would feature around one hour of Disney animated short films, grouped by a starring character or a theme. It is based on the original Walt Disney Cartoon Classics line of videotapes of the 1980s. As opposed to the chronological nature of the Walt Disney Treasures line, each release would feature various cartoons in no particular order. The first wave of Walt Disney Treasures was released on December 4, 2001. It includes four different DVD sets.

The second wave of Walt Disney Treasures was released December 3, 2002. This was the final wave with the tin's individual number embossed on the tin.

The fifth wave of Walt Disney Treasures was released on December 6, 2005. Starting with this wave the DVD cases are now single opening, but the same size as the previous.

Very similar to the Walt Disney's Classic Cartoon Favorites line, each release would feature around one-hour of Disney animated short films, grouped by a starring character, or set of characters. As opposed to the chronological nature of the Walt Disney Treasures line, each release would feature various cartoons in no particular order. The series featured two waves of releases, on January 17, 2006, and November 21, 2006.

Walt Disney's Timeless Tales is a series of DVDs by Walt Disney Home Entertainment. Each release features around one-hour of Disney animated short films featuring classic fairy tale adaptations. In contrast to the chronological nature of the Walt Disney Treasures line, each release includes cartoons in no particular order.

"Scary Tales" refers to several different versions of a Halloween-themed compilation of Walt Disney shorts, as well as an alternate and condensed version of "Disney's Halloween Treat" (1982) by the same name or derivation debuting in different years across various formats and countries:

  1. Scary Tales is a compilation of Walt Disney shorts. The compilation was released in 1983 on both VHS and laser disc and is the third volume in a release of Walt Disney Cartoon Classics. The running time is 52 minutes, not 43 minutes as the artwork contains this error.
  2. Scary Tales is a compilation of Walt Disney shorts released exclusively in Japan on LaserDisc in 1986. The running time is 91 minutes.
  3. Disney's Scary Tales of Halloween, as it referred to sometimes by the channel announcer, refers to an alternative title and condensed version of "Disney's Halloween Treat" (1982), released in 60-minute block formats as both syndicated and network broadcast formats on television.

Merbabies is a Silly Symphonies animated Disney short film. It was released on December 9, 1938. It is a collaboration between Walt Disney and Harman and Ising, the latter studio having donated artists to Disney to work on the production of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937). It is one of the last shorts of the Silly Symphonies series.
