Wanee Festival was an annual event held 2005 - 2018 at the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park, in Live Oak, Florida. [1] The festival was hosted by the Allman Brothers Band until 2014 and was managed by Live Nation. On November 5, 2018, it was announced via the Wanee website that the festival would not be occurring at the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park in 2019, citing the religious holidays of Easter and Passover as the reason the festival was cancelled. No plans for future Wanee Festivals have been announced.

Overview

The festival, hosted by the Allman Brothers Band until 2014 and managed by Live Nation, is held outdoors on two stages (Peach Stage & Mushroom Stage). In later years, The Porch Stage, The Traveling Stage and The Campground Stage have been added and are frequently used now. The Wanee Festival has featured as little as 11 bands/artists its inaugural year to as many as 44 bands/artists in 2011.

In recent years, the Wanee Festival has gone from a two-day- to a three-day-long festival. Even though the official festival is only three days long, many festival goers arrive early for the Wanee Kickoff Party, known as Wanee Wednesday, which features less well known artists and is typically the night before the opening day of the festival.

The event is generally held in the spring. In addition to the headlining Allman Brothers Band, the festival has featured performances by band members with their own bands, including The Derek Trucks Band, Oteil (Burbridge) and the Peacemakers and Gov't Mule (Warren Haynes). Other guests have included DJ Logic, Big Gigantic, Galactic, Hot Tuna, Lotus, Stephen Marley, Grateful Dead Alumni Bob Weir and Ratdog, Widespread Panic, Stephen Stills, the Black Keys, Junior Brown, Griffin Anthony, The Doobie Brothers, Buddy Guy, Furthur, JJ Grey & Mofro, Little Feat and Zappa Plays Zappa.

The 2018 festival, which is set for April 19–21 at the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park, featured two nights of Widespread Panic and Phil Lesh & The Terrapin Family Band. 2019

In November 2018, Live Nation announced that they would not hold a Wanee Music Festival in 2019. No additional plans have been made to continue the music festival. [47] [48] [49]

Col. Bruce Hampton and the Aquarium Rescue Unit is a jazz fusion group founded by Col. Bruce Hampton. The band gained popularity in the Atlanta club scene in the early 1990s and went on to tour with the first H.O.R.D.E. Tour. During their formative years, the band was composed of Bruce Hampton, Oteil Burbridge, Jimmy Herring, Jeff Sipe, Matt Mundy, and Count M'Butu. Jeff Mosier and Charlie Williams were members of the band during the early years, but left to pursue other endeavors. <span class="mw-page-title-main">Oteil Burbridge</span> American musician

Oteil Burbridge is an American multi-instrumentalist, specializing on the bass guitar, trained in playing jazz and classical music from an early age. He has achieved fame primarily on bass guitar during the resurgence of the Allman Brothers Band from 1997 through 2014, and as a founding member of the band Dead & Company. Burbridge was also a founding member of The Aquarium Rescue Unit and Tedeschi Trucks Band, with whom his brother Kofi Burbridge was the keyboardist and flautist. He has worked with other musicians including Bruce Hampton, Trey Anastasio, Page McConnell, Bill Kreutzmann and Derek Trucks.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Butch Trucks</span> American drummer (1947–2017)

Claude Hudson "Butch" Trucks was an American drummer. He was best known as a founding member of The Allman Brothers Band, for which he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995. Trucks was born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida. He played in various groups before forming the 31st of February while at Florida State University in the mid-1960s. He joined the Allman Brothers Band in 1969. Their 1971 live release, At Fillmore East, represented an artistic and commercial breakthrough. The group became one of the most popular bands of the era on the strength of their live performances and several successful albums. Though the band broke up and re-formed various times, Trucks remained a constant in their 45-year career. Trucks died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound on January 24, 2017.

Derek Trucks is an American guitarist, songwriter, and founder of The Derek Trucks Band. He became an official member of The Allman Brothers Band in 1999. In 2010, he formed the Tedeschi Trucks Band with his wife, blues singer/guitarist Susan Tedeschi. His musical style encompasses several genres and he has twice appeared on Rolling Stone's list of 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time. He is the nephew of the late Butch Trucks, drummer for the Allman Brothers.

Gathering of the Vibes was an annual four-day music, camping and arts festival that celebrated the Grateful Dead and showcased a diverse variety of music. Over the course of the event, styles would often include funk, bluegrass, rock, jam band, jazz, reggae, R&B and folk music. Beginning in 1996, GOTV brought many bands to the New England area during the summer season. There existed two main stages which would alternate bands so that festival-goers could experience music all day and into the night. Wakarusa Music and Camping Festival was a four-day music festival held annually in early June from 2004 to 2015 at Mulberry Mountain near Ozark, Arkansas. Named for the Wakarusa River, the festival was first held at Clinton State Park immediately outside of Lawrence, Kansas. It moved to its new location, just outside Fort Smith and Fayetteville, Arkansas in 2009. The festival is known for an eclectic mix of music and has featured artists like Grammy award winners the Black Keys, The Flaming Lips, Wilco, and Bela Fleck and the Flecktones. Activities other than music included disc golf, yoga, hiking, and swimming in the Mulberry River.

Since its inception in 1988, the concert has provided an opportunity for the performing artists, audience and the local community to give back during the holiday season. Over the past 18 years, Haynes - an Asheville native - has worked closely with the Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity.

Lockn' Festival, first known as Interlocken Music Festival, was an annual four-day music festival held at Oak Ridge Farm near Arrington in Nelson County, Virginia. The festival focused primarily on jam bands and other music improvisation acts. Its inaugural event took place September 5–8, 2013, drew nearly 25,000 fans and featured notable groups such as Furthur, Trey Anastasio Band, Gov't Mule, Widespread Panic featuring John Fogerty, The String Cheese Incident featuring Zac Brown, and The Black Crowes.

It was released on October 16, 2020. The album contains a complete concert performed by the 2001 to 2014 lineup of the band – Gregg Allman, Warren Haynes, Derek Trucks (guitar), Oteil Burbridge (bass), Butch Trucks (drums), Jaimoe (drums), and Marc Quiñones.
