Wanli Education Group (WEG) is situated in the city of Ningbo in Zhejiang province, near Shanghai.
In June 1993, WEG took over an engineer school on the verge of bankruptcy and established an international school whose offer ranges from kindergarten to higher education.
In a decade or so, due to a rapidly increasing demand, WEG reached an enrollment level of 24,000 students, with a teaching and administrative staff of 2,100 people.
Using a land surface of 3000 mu (200 hectares), WEG built a surface area of 1 million square meters. In the context of the educational reforms and modernization policies, WEG claims to be an experimental institution which is implementing a new kind of management model "centered on the students". After achieving a relative level of recognition in primary and secondary education, WEG is now trying to upgrade its higher education offer, notably through a joint-venture initiated in 2004 with the University of Nottingham in the UK.

Founded as Ningpo Boy’s Boarding School by Divie Bethune McCartee and colleagues of Northern Presbyterian Church in Ningbo in 1845, the university was one of the oldest missionary schools in China before it was shut down in 1952. The university was merged into Zhejiang University and other universities in China. Its campus was taken over by Zhejiang University as its Zhijiang Campus in 1961, which became a major nationally protected historic site in 2006.
Zhijiang Campus is an urban campus of Zhejiang University located in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China. Located on riverside of the Qiantang River and close to the Liuhe Pagoda, it was the oldest university campus in Hangzhou. The Eastern Zhejiang Canal is located in Zhejiang province, China. Its west end is in Xixing Street, Binjiang District, Hangzhou City, crossing Cao'e River and Shaoxing City to its east end, the Yong River estuary in Ningbo City. The canal is 239 kilometres (149 mi) long. Early canal construction took place in the Shanyin old canal in Shaoxing City, during the Spring and Autumn period. In the third century AD, an official named He Xun supervised the construction of Xixing Canal, establishing the complete Eastern Zhejiang Canal.
Xu Yafen is a Chinese Communist Party (CCP) politician and university administrator. She is a member of the 11th CCP Conference of Zhejiang Province and chair of the board of the University of Nottingham Ningbo China, a partnership with the British University of Nottingham, and chair of the Chinese Zhejiang Wanli University. Xu is also a visiting professor at Tsinghua University and a research fellow at the Human Science Institute of the Chinese Academy of Management Science. In 2017 she was honoured by the University of Nottingham, who named a building at their Jubilee Campus after her.
Ocean College is a college under Faculty of Engineering of Zhejiang University (ZJU). Located on the Zhoushan Island, it was the first ZJU institution outside of Hangzhou. The college participated in several national ocean science projects, including the development of Jiaolong submersible. The college offers both undergraduate and postgraduate education, but undergraduates of the college will study at Zijingang campus for the first two years. The colleges offers courses in marine biology, oceanography, underwater technology and offshore engineering.
