Warscheneck (2,388 m) is a mountain of the Totes Gebirge in the Eastern Alps, in Upper Austria. It is located near the town of Liezen, and is a popular mountain for hiking in the summer and ski touring in the winter. [2]
The Totes Gebirge is a group of mountains in Austria, part of the Northern Limestone Alps, lying between the Salzkammergut and the Ennstaler Alpen. The name Totes Gebirge is derived from the German words tot meaning "dead", referring to the apparent lack of vegetation, and Gebirge meaning "mountain range". The area is a large karst plateau with steep sides, and several mountain peaks above 2000 m. The highest point is the summit of Großer Priel, at 2,515 metres (8,251 ft)
Eastern Alps is the name given to the eastern half of the Alps, usually defined as the area east of a line from Lake Constance and the Alpine Rhine valley up to the Splügen Pass at the Alpine divide and down the Liro River to Lake Como in the south. It is a prominent mountain, which dominates the valleys below it, and appears to rise vertically above Falzthurntal. Another spectacular viewpoint is from Achen Lake. It is a popular hiking peak, with a relatively easy route, so it can get busy in summer.
Großer Bösenstein is a mountain of the Lower Tauern in Styria, Austria. It is located near the village of Hohentauern, which is the starting point for most climbs, and is the third highest mountain of the Rottenmann and Wölz Tauern sub-range. It is a hiking peak, and the view from the summit provides an excellent view of the far Eastern Alps, including Grimming and the Totes Gebirge.
Gartnerkofel is a mountain of the Carnic Alps in Carinthia, Austria. It is located on the main chain of the Carnics above the Naßfeld Pass, near the border with Italy. The nearest town is Hermagor-Pressegger See. The mountain has two summits, and ravines fall down from its northern slopes, which are separated by rocky ridges. The normal route is from the northwest, from where it an easy climb across the ridge to the summit. The mountain is also a popular ski touring destination.
