Wazobia FM is a Nigerian pidgin radio station that broadcast their programs in pidgin and other indigenous languages which includes Igbo, Yoruba, and Hausa. [1] [2] It has stations in Lagos, Kano, Abuja, Port Harcourt and Onitsha. [3] [4] [1]
The radio station is owned by Aim Group, who are also the owners of Cool FM, Nigeria Info, Arewa radio and Kidz FM. [5]
Wazobia FM 95. 1 was founded in November 2007, in Lagos State by Aim Group and it was the first pidgin radio station in Nigeria. [6] [7] [8] One year later, another branch was opened in Port Harcourt with 94.1 frequency, followed by a branch in Abuja in January 2011 with the frequency 99.5, and then another in Kano State with the frequency 95.1 in October 2011. [9] In July 2018, another branch was opened in Onitsha, Anambra State. [10]

It can be spoken as a pidgin, a creole, dialect or a decreolised acrolect by different speakers, who may switch between these forms depending on the social setting. In the 2010s, a common orthography was developed for Pidgin which has been gaining significant popularity in giving the language a harmonized writing system.

Railways in Nigeria consist of a 3,505 km Cape gauge national railway network and 669 km of standard gauge. The Cape gauge network is in poor condition due to lack of maintenance. In 2019, the single operational standard gauge line from Abuja to Kaduna generated as much revenue as the entire Cape gauge railway network combined. The Nigerian government plans to extend the standard gauge to replace most of the Western Line, while the Eastern Line will be rehabilitated as a Cape gauge line. The Lagos–Kano Standard Gauge Railway is a 1,343 kilometres -long standard gauge railway under construction in Nigeria. Once complete, the railway will connect the Atlantic Ocean port city of Lagos to Kano, near the border with Niger, passing through the national capital of Abuja. The railway replaces the Cape gauge Western Line built by the British in 1896–1927, which has a lower design capacity and is in a deteriorated condition.
