We Hear of Love, of Youth, and of Disillusionment is a Daytrotter session recorded at the first Moogfest [1] in Asheville, North Carolina by MGMT. [2] It contains a cover of "Only a Shadow", a song originally performed by The Cleaners from Venus. The song was part of several of MGMT's setlists on their tour dates for the promotion of their second album Congratulations, and this release marks the first studio take on the song.

The session can be listened to online at Daytrotter, [3] and the cover illustration was made by the Daytrotter team member Johnnie Cluney.

Originally known under the name The Management, the group was founded in 2002 by Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser during their freshman year as art students at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut. After graduating and changing the band's name to MGMT, they released an EP titled Time to Pretend in 2005 through the independent record label Cantora Records; music videos were recorded for two of the EP's songs, "Boogie Down" and "Destrokk". The critical success of the EP and extensive touring brought the group to the attention of Columbia Records, which signed them in 2006.
