Weekend Festival Baltic was the Estonian edition of the Weekend Festival, the largest dance music festival in Scandinavia. Stages are headlined by DJs from across the electronic dance music spectrum, with audiovisual support. [1] The Estonian version of the event first took place in 2015.

Contents

History

Weekend Festival started in Finland in 2012 and has since grown into one of Europe's largest festivals with a focus on the electronic dance music scene. In 2015, Weekend Festival expanded to the Baltic region, taking place at Pärnu Beach in Estonia, whilst simultaneously running in the original location of Helsinki. In 2016, Weekend Festival is expanding to a third location, in Stockholm, Sweden.

Weekend Festival is a music festival taking place in Hämeenlinna, previously also in Helsinki, Stockholm and Pärnu. The festival was organised for the first time in Luukki, Espoo, Finland on the 17 and 18 of August 2012. In 2013 the festival location was changed to its old location at Kyläsaari/Kalasatama in Helsinki. In 2018 the festival moved to Hietaniemi also in Helsinki. In 2019 it moved to Suvilahti, Helsinki. Weekend Festival artist line up has mainly consisted of EDM artists but there have also been artists from other music genres present. The festival has been attended by more than 40,000 people on both years. Every year the festival has a different theme which reflects mainly in the visual side of the festival. In 2013 the festival theme was Space and Future while for 2014 the organisers decided to go with Electro Disco theme. The festival lineup has featured various internationally acclaimed artists including Skrillex, David Guetta, Calvin Harris, Martin Garrix etc. and Finland's own popular artists. Weekend Festival has sold out in advance on both years. In 2013 Weekend Festival was voted as the best summer festival by the listeners of Finnish radio station YleX. In 2015, Weekend Festival expanded to Pärnu, Estonia and in 2016 to Sweden.

The Estonian Dance Festival is a national dance and gymnastics celebration currently held every five years at the Kalevi Keskstaadion in Tallinn, Estonia. The festival is maintained and developed by the Estonian Song and Dance Celebration Foundation. The Dance Festival is usually held on the same weekend as the Estonian Song Festival.

Mr. Belt & Wezol are a Dutch electronic music duo consisting of DJ Bart Riem and DJ and producer Sam van Wees. The duo's tracks "Finally" and "Somebody to Love" (2015) reached the top 10 of Beatport for several weeks. In 2016 the duo won the "Breakthrough Artist of the Year" award at the Annual International Dance Music Award.

I Wear* Experiment is an Estonian rock band formed in 2012. Their sound leans towards experimentation and cinematic soundscapes. The band members are Johanna Eenma (vocals/keyboards), Mikk Simson (drums/percussion) and Hando Jaksi (guitars/synths/sampler). The band began their journey into electronical pop music at the beginning of 2012. I Wear* Experiment has released three 3 EPs and their latest debut album “Patience” was released in 2016. The second single of the album - "Patience" was one of the finalists of Eesti Laul competition.

Anna Raudkats was an Estonian teacher and folk dance reviver. She wrote several books on Estonian folk dance, occasionally adding elements she had choreographed herself.
