Alma-Sofia Miettinen (born 17 January 1996), known professionally as Alma (stylised in all caps), is a Finnish singer and songwriter. Beginning her career in 2013, she placed fifth in the seventh season of the Finnish version of Idol . Her breakthrough came in 2015 when she was featured on the single "Muuta ku mä" by Sini Sabotage, and was subsequently signed to Universal Music Group.
The following year she released the singles "Karma" and "Dye My Hair", both of which became top ten hits in Finland. Her 2017 single "Chasing Highs" repeated this success, and also reached the top twenty in Germany and the United Kingdom. Her extended play Heavy Rules Mixtape was released in 2018 and reached the top ten in Finland. She has collaborated frequently with English singer Charli XCX, Swedish singer Tove Lo, Danish singer MØ, English DJ Digital Farm Animals who produced most of the songs of her debut album and most recently, American singer Miley Cyrus.
In 2013, at age 17, Alma auditioned for the seventh season of Finnish Idols . She progressed to the live shows, where she finished fifth. [1]

In 2015, she was featured on Sini Sabotage's single "Muuta ku mä". [2] [3] In March 2016, Alma was signed to Universal Music, and in June she released her first single "Karma". The song peaked at number 5 on the Finnish Singles Chart. [4] She is also the featured vocalist on the Felix Jaehn song "Bonfire". The song was released as a single in July 2016. [5] In September 2016, Alma was confirmed to play at the 31st edition of Eurosonic Noorderslag in Groningen, NL. [6] On 28 October 2016, she released her debut EP Dye My Hair.
She released the single "Chasing Highs" in March 2017. The song peaked at number 10 on the Finnish Singles Chart. In June it was released in the UK, and became Alma's first UK top 20 hit. [7] She was featured on the Sub Focus' song "Don't You Feel It", released as a single in May 2017. [8] She was also the featured vocalist on Martin Solveig's song "All Stars" which was released as a single in June 2017. [9] In September 2017, Alma released stand-alone single "Phases" with Moroccan-American rapper French Montana. [10] In December 2017, she collaborated with Charli XCX and Tove Lo on track "Out of My Head" from XCX's fourth mixtape Pop 2 . [11]
On 26 February 2018, Alma announced that her second extended play which is called Heavy Rules Mixtape will be released on 2 March 2018. [12] The record peaked at number nine in Finland and number 41 in Sweden. "Good Vibes" with Swedish singer-songwriter Tove Styrke peaked at number 91 on Swedish Charts, despite not being released as a track from the project. On 4 June 2018, Tove Lo announced the remix of her song "Bitches" from her third studio album Blue Lips . Aside from Alma, the song, also features Charli XCX, Icona Pop and Elliphant. The track was released on 7 June. [13] [14] In October 2018, Alma released a stand-alone track "Cowboy". [15]
On 1 February, she released "When I Die" which was supposed to be a lead single from her debut studio album. [16] Two weeks later, on 15 February, Alma released "Summer" a supposed second track from her debut album. "Lonely Night" was announced on 11 June and was later released on 15 June. [17] Her third EP Have U Seen Her? (Part I) consisting of two tracks was released on 1 November. Both tracks were later included on Have U Seen Her? . [18] An actual lead single from her debut album "Bad News Baby" was released on 22 November. [19]

After a two-year hiatus, Alma started to tease a new single starting from 3 June 2022. [23] She came back on 1 July 2022, with "Everything Beautiful" which serves as the lead track from her second studio album. [24] "I Forgive Me" was released on 12 August 2022, as the second track from her second album. [25] Alma dropped "Summer Really Hurt Us" on 23 September 2022, as the third track from her second album. "Hey Mom Hey Dad" was released on 20 January 2023, as the fourth track. [26] Alma finally announced that her second studio album Time Machine will be released on 21 April 2023. [27] "Tell Mama" was released as the fifth and final track from Time Machine. [28] Later that year, Alma toured Europe to promote her second studio album.
On January 12, 2024, Slowboy has released his collaboration with Alma and Digital Farm Animals called "Fake Friends". In March 2024, a documentary film called "Life Must Be Beautiful" was released in Finnish theaters. It was directed by Finnish actress and director Pamela Tola. [29] A day before the documentary was released, Alma dropped a single with the same name.
In a March 2019 article in Gay Times , Alma confirmed she is a lesbian and in a relationship. [30] Her partner is the Finnish poet and civil rights activist Natalia Kallio. [31]

Blue Lips is the third studio album by Swedish singer Tove Lo. It was released on 17 November 2017 by Island Records. Blue Lips is considered the second half of a two-piece concept album that describe "highs, lows and ultimate demise of a relationship." Its chapters "Light Beams" and "Pitch Black" succeed the chapters "Fairy Dust" and "Fire Fade" from her previous album Lady Wood (2016).
Tove Anna Linnéa Östman Styrke is a Swedish singer and songwriter. She gained popularity as a contestant on Swedish Idol 2009, finishing in third place. After the show, she started a solo career in electropop. She released her debut album Tove Styrke in 2010. The New York Post included Styrke in its list of "10 Artists to Know in 2011". In 2015, she released her second album, Kiddo. Three years later, in 2018, she released her third album, Sway. Throughout the 2010s Styrke gained an increasing critical acclaim as an independent artist resulting in her single "Say My Name" being included in Rolling Stone's 100 best songs of the decade.
Charlotte Emma Aitchison, known professionally as Charli XCX, is an English singer and songwriter. Born in Cambridge and raised in Start Hill, Essex, she began posting songs on Myspace in 2008, which led to her discovery by a promoter who invited her to perform at warehouse raves. In 2010, she signed a recording contract with Asylum Records, releasing a series of singles and mixtapes throughout 2011 and 2012.
Karen Marie Aagaard Ørsted Andersen, known professionally as MØ, is a Danish singer and songwriter. In 2012, she signed a recording contract with Sony Music Entertainment, releasing her debut extended play, Bikini Daze (2013), and her debut studio album, No Mythologies to Follow (2014).
Ellinor Miranda Salome Olovsdotter, known professionally as Elliphant, is a Swedish singer, rapper and songwriter. Her sound was initially created together with the Swedish production duo Jungle, which consists of Tim Denéve and Ted Krotkiewski. The music they created together caught the attention of TEN Music Group, to which Elliphant signed in 2011. Elliphant also supported Major Lazer, the side project of American producer and DJ Diplo, on their 2015 European tour.
Ebba Tove Elsa Nilsson, known professionally as Tove Lo, is a Swedish singer and songwriter. She has been called "Sweden's darkest pop export" by Rolling Stone. She is known for her raw, grunge-influenced take on pop music. Out referred to her autobiographical lyrical content as making her "the saddest girl in Sweden".
Truth Serum is the debut extended play (EP) by Swedish recording artist Tove Lo. The singer signed a publishing deal with Warner/Chappell Music in 2011, which led her to write songs for artists like Girls Aloud and Icona Pop. Around that time, she was going through a hard situation in a relationship, so she eventually started composing tracks related to that matter. She then decided to keep those tracks for herself as she considered them too personal. Lo independently released two of the songs as singles, "Love Ballad" in October 2012, and "Habits" in March 2013. Their popularity gained the singer a record deal with Universal Records in 2013. The EP was eventually released through the label to digital retailers on 3 March 2014.

In 2017, she self-released her debut extended play, Rina. After signing to Dirty Hit in 2020, she released her debut studio album, Sawayama, to critical acclaim. Her second studio album, Hold the Girl, was released on 16 September 2022. Known for her musical versatility, Sawayama has also modelled for fashion campaigns, and made her film acting debut in the action film John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023).
"Bitches" is a song by Swedish singer Tove Lo from her third studio album, Blue Lips (2017). The official remix featuring Charli XCX, Icona Pop, Elliphant and Alma was released on 7 June 2018 as a single.
Pop 2 is the fourth mixtape by English singer Charli XCX, released on 15 December 2017 by Asylum Records. Executively produced by A. G. Cook of PC Music, sessions for the mixtape began several months before its release and featured a wide variety of guest contributions. The mixtape was backed by its only single "Out of My Head" featuring Alma and Tove Lo, released exactly one week before its release.
"Unlock It" is a 2017 song by Charli XCX featuring Kim Petras and Jay Park from XCX's mixtape Pop 2. Released as the second teaser from that mixtape either side of "Out of My Head" featuring Tove Lo and Alma and "I Got It" featuring Cupcakke, Brooke Candy, and Pabllo Vittar, the track samples A. G. Cook's "Beautiful" and was premiered on Zane Lowe's Beats 1 show the day of release. Reviewers praised the song, especially its lyrics. A mashup of the song with Tinashe's "Superlove" went viral on TikTok in 2021, shortly after which XCX renamed the track "Unlock It (Lock It)" to fan discontent. In 2022, Piri & Tommy released a cover that Vice rated as the 14th best song of 2022.
"Bad as the Boys" is a song by Swedish singer-songwriter Tove Lo featuring Finnish singer Alma, released on 2 August 2019 as the second single from her fourth album Sunshine Kitty. It marks Lo and Alma's third collaboration, following their feature on Charli XCX's 2017 single "Out of My Head" and the remix of Lo's 2018 single "Bitches".

"Bikini Porn" is a song recorded by Swedish singer Tove Lo, who co-wrote it with Finneas, Jakob Hazell, Ludvig Söderberg and Svante Halldin. It was produced by Finneas, Jack & Coke and A Strut, who also handled the programming. Universal Music AB released "Bikini Porn" as a single on 15 January 2020 for download and on streaming services, and later included it on Lo's reissue album Sunshine Kitty: Paw Prints Edition, in May 2020. The single also featured the ballad "Passion and Pain Taste the Same When I'm Weak", written by Lo and Finneas.
"Venus Fly Trap" is a song written and recorded by Welsh singer-songwriter Marina for her fifth studio album, Ancient Dreams in a Modern Land (2021). It was released as the project's fourth single on 9 June 2021, through Atlantic Records, and was produced by Marina and James Flannigan. A Kito remix featuring Tove Lo was released on 16 July.
Crash is the fifth studio album by English singer Charli XCX, released on 18 March 2022. It was her last album to be released under her record contract with Asylum Records. Charli announced the album title, release date, and artwork on 4 November 2021. Her website was also updated with information about the album's 2022 tour. The album was preceded by the four singles "Good Ones", "New Shapes" featuring Christine and the Queens and Caroline Polachek, "Beg for You" featuring Rina Sawayama, "Baby" and two promotional singles, "Every Rule" and "Used to Know Me", the latter released as the fifth single in April 2022.
Dirt Femme is the fifth studio album by Swedish singer Tove Lo. It was her first to be independently released by her own label, Pretty Swede Records, on 14 October 2022. The first two singles, "How Long" and "No One Dies from Love", had been released earlier that year. The first was featured on the soundtrack to the second season of the American TV series Euphoria. She collaborates with artists First Aid Kit, SG Lewis, and Channel Tres. An "extended cut" edition was released on August 11, 2023, promoted by the singles "Borderline", "I Like U", and "Elevator Eyes".
