The Weightlifting Federation of Africa was founded in 1978. The federation is the body that governs and oversees weightlifting sports in Africa. [2] [3]

Sara Samir Elsayed Mohamed Ahmed is an Egyptian weightlifter who won a bronze medal in the women's 69 kg event at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She won the gold medal in the women's 76 kg event at the 2022 World Weightlifting Championships held in Bogotá, Colombia. Originally from the Ismailia Governorate, Ahmed was encouraged to take part in weightlifting by her family and was competing internationally by 2012. At the senior level, she has earned gold medals at the Mediterranean and African Games, as well as the Arab Championships. In Rio de Janeiro, she became the first Arab woman to receive an Olympic weightlifting medal and the first Egyptian woman to receive an Olympic medal on the podium in any discipline.

Duangaksorn Chaidee is a Thai weightlifter, who competed in the +63 kg category and represented Thailand at international competitions.

Ghofrane Belkhir is a Tunisian weightlifter. She won the gold medal in the women's 55 kg event at the 2021 World Weightlifting Championships held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. She also won the gold medal in the 58 kg event at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics held in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Belkhir broke the world record for the snatch, clean and jerk, and total in the women's 59-kilogram class weightlifting event at the 5th International Solidarity Weightlifting Championship in Cairo, Egypt in December 2018. As of May 2020, she holds the African junior records for these events in the women's 59 kg weight class.

Neama Said Fahmi Said is an Egyptian weightlifter. She won the gold medal in the women's 64 kg event at the 2021 World Weightlifting Championships held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. In 2018, she won the silver medal in the girls' 58 kg event at the Summer Youth Olympics held in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
