The Nigeria Weightlifting Federation, otherwise known as NWF, is the national governing body that oversees the sport of weightlifting in Nigeria. [2] Formed in 1963, the federation is a member of the International Weightlifting Federation and Commonwealth Weightlifting Federation. [3]

2015 African Games 11th edition of the African Games

The 11th African Games took place from September 4–19, 2015 in Brazzaville, Republic of the Congo. This edition marked the 50th anniversary of the Games, as well as their return to Brazzaville, which hosted the first edition in 1965.

Nigeria Olympic Committee

The Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) is the National Olympic Committee for Nigeria, responsible for co-ordinating and supporting Nigerian competitors in the Olympic Games. It is also the body responsible for Nigeria's representation at the Commonwealth Games.

Nigeria at the 2016 Summer Olympics Sporting event delegation

Nigeria competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, from August 5 to 21, 2016. Since the nation made its debut in 1952, Nigerian athletes had appeared in every edition of the Summer Olympic Games, with the exception of the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal because of the African boycott.

Weightlifting at the Pacific Games

Weightlifting at the Pacific Games has been contested since 1966 when it was included as one of twelve sports at the Second South Pacific Games held in Nouméa, New Caledonia. A weightlifting competition for women was introduced in 1995 for the games in Papeete.

Weightlifting at the 2015 African Games in Brazzaville was held between September 7–9, 2015 while Powerlifting was held on September 11 and 12, 2015.

Cecilia Francis is a Nigerian sprinter who specializes in the 100 metres, 200 metres and 4 x 100 metres relay. Cecilia claimed gold alongside Blessing Okagbare, Lawretta Ozoh and Ngozi Onwumere in the 4 x 100 metres relay at the 2015 All-Africa Games in Brazzaville, Congo. She also represented Nigeria at the 2015 World Championships in Athletics in Beijing, China.

Ngozi Onwumere is an American– Nigerian sprinter and bobsledder who competes internationally for Nigeria. In track, Onwumere specializes in the 100 metres, 200 metres, 400 metres and 4 x 100 metres relay. Ngozi claimed gold alongside Blessing Okagbare, Lawretta Ozoh and Cecilia Francis in the 4 x 100 metres relay at the 2015 All-Africa Games in Brazzaville, Congo. She also represented Nigeria at the 2015 IAAF World Relays in Nassau, Bahamas. She represented Nigeria at the 2018 Winter Olympics in 2-women bobsled.

2015 World Weightlifting Championships

The 2015 World Weightlifting Championships were held in Houston, United States. The event took place from November 19 to 28, 2015. This event was, together with the 2014 World Weightlifting Championships, the first stage of the Qualification Process for the 2016 Summer Olympics.

Marie Hanitra Roilya Ranaivosoa, commonly known as Roilya Ranaivosoa, is a Mauritian weightlifter of Malagasy descent, competing in the 48 kg category and representing Mauritius at international competitions.

Adijat Adenike Olarinoye is a Nigerian weightlifter. She won the silver medal in the women's 55 kg event at the 2021 World Weightlifting Championships held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. She represented Nigeria at the 2019 African Games which is also her maiden African Games appearance and claimed three medals including two gold medals in women's 55 kg weightlifting event.

Onyeka Azike Nigerian weightlifter

Onyeka Azike is a Nigerian weightlifter. She competed in the 2006 Commonwealth Games, won a silver medal in the women's 53 kg division at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Australia, and won a gold medal in the 58 kg weightlifting category of the 2007 All Africa Games in Algeria. Azike has participated in Nigeria's major women's weightlifting competitions and is quite doing well.

Bilikis Abiodun Otunla is a Nigerian weightlifter. She competed in the 2015 African Games and she won gold medals in the women's 69 kg category - Clean and jerk 1ST (Gold), Women's 69 – 75 kg category – Trekken 1ST (Gold) and Women's 69 – 75 kg – Total Gold She had also participated in the 2016, 2018 and 2019 of the African Games competitions winning gold at all of them except the 2019 which she was suspended after her win as a result of a failed anti-doping test, and the gold medal was not awarded to her. In 2019 she was banned until 2027 by the International Weightlifting Federation after testing positive for metenolone and metenolone metabolites.

Chinenye Fidelis is a Nigerian weightlifter. She represents Nigeria both nationally and internationally. She has competed in the Nigerian National Sports Festival, African Weightlifting Championships and World Weightlifting Championships.
