Welbert Samuel (born January 5, 1981) is a Micronesian former swimmer, who specialized in backstroke events. [1] Samuel became the first ever swimmer to represent the Federated States of Micronesia at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. [2] He qualified only in the men's 100 m backstroke by receiving a Universality place from FINA, without meeting an entry time. [3] Entering the race in heat one, Samuel closed out the field of seven swimmers to last place in a lifetime best of 1:12.38. Samuel failed to advance into the semifinals, as he placed fifty-first overall in the prelims. [4] [5]
Eduardo Germán Otero is an Argentine former swimmer, who specialized in backstroke and butterfly events. He is a three-time Olympian, a multiple-time national record holder, and a two-time champion for the 50 m backstroke at the South American Games. He is also a member of Club Nadadores del Rio Plata, and is coached and trained by Marcelo "Yuri" Quaglia.
Sung Min is a South Korean former swimmer, who specialized in freestyle and backstroke events. He represented South Korea in three editions of the Olympic Games, and held multiple national championship titles and swimming records in the relay freestyle and backstroke events. Sung had also won a total of five bronze medals, including one from the 50 m backstroke, at the 2002 Asian Games in Busan, South Korea, and at the 2006 Asian Games in Doha, Qatar.
George Gleason is a former swimmer from the U.S. Virgin Islands, who specialized in freestyle and backstroke events. He is a two-time Olympian, a swimming captain for the Yale Bulldogs, and a graduate of sociology (2001) at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. Gleason also capped his swimming career by an eleventh-place finish in the 200 m backstroke at the NCAA Swimming Championships in College Station, Texas, earning him All-American honors.

Kim Min-suk is a retired South Korean swimmer, who specialized in sprint freestyle and backstroke events. He is a two-time Olympian, and a double medalist at the 2002 Asian Games in Busan.
Miroslav Machovič is a Slovak former swimmer, who specialized in backstroke events. He is a two-time Olympian, and a former Slovak record holder in 50, 100, and. During his sporting career, Machovic also trained for STU Trnava and Dukla Banska Bystrica under his coaches Ladislav Hlavatý, Jiřī Walter.

Philipp Gilgen is a Swiss former swimmer, who specialized in backstroke events. He is a 2000 Olympian and a 17-time Swiss champion in both 100 and 200 m backstroke.
Ivan Angelov is a Bulgarian former swimmer, who specialized in backstroke events. He is a single-time Olympian (2000), and a former Bulgarian record holder in 50, 100, and 200 m backstroke. During his sporting career, Angelov also trained for Liulin Sports Club in Sofia under his personal coaches Valentin Yordanov and Liliana Hristeva.
Dulyarit "Goh" Phuangthong is a Thai former professional swimmer who specialized in backstroke, butterfly and individual medley events. He is a two-time Olympian, a finalist in the 100m backstroke at the 2002 Asian Games, and a multiple-time medalist at the Southeast Asian Games since his debut in 1995.
Pavel Sidorov is a Kazakh former swimmer, who specialized in sprint freestyle and backstroke events. Sidorov competed for Kazakhstan in two swimming events at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. He eclipsed a FINA B-cut of 58.69 from the Kazakhstan Open Championships in Almaty. On the first day of the Games, Sidorov placed twenty-first for the Kazakhstan team in the 4×100 m freestyle relay. Teaming with Sergey Borisenko, Andrey Kvassov, and Igor Sitnikov in heat three, Sidorov swam a third leg and recorded a split of 52.14, but the Kazakhs settled only for last place in a final time of 3:28.90. The following day, in the 100 m backstroke, Sidorov placed fifty-second on the morning prelims. Swimming in heat one, he edged out Bolivia's Mauricio Prudencio on the final length to grab a fourth seed by 0.13 seconds in a time of 1:01.02.
Konstantin Priahin is a Kyrgyzstani former swimmer, who specialized in backstroke events. He represented Kyrgyzstan in two editions of the Olympic Games.
Michael Fung-A-Wing is a Surinamese former swimmer who specialized in backstroke events. A two-time Olympian, he holds Surinamese records in a backstroke double, still standing for more than a decade. While studying at the University of Georgia in the United States, Fung-A-Wing swam for the Georgia Bulldogs swimming and diving team under head coach Jack Bauerle.
Faisal Al-Mahmeed is a Kuwaiti former swimmer, who specialized in backstroke events. Al-Mahmeed competed only in the men's 100 m backstroke at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. He achieved a FINA B-cut of 58.65 from the Asian Championships in Busan, South Korea. Swimming in heat one, he pulled away from Micronesia's Welbert Samuel to pick up a sixth seed in a time of 1:05.17, a 6.5-second deficit outside his entry standard. Al-Mahmeed failed to advance into the semifinals, as he placed fiftieth overall in the prelims.
Monique Rachelle Robins is a New Zealand former swimmer, who specialised in sprint freestyle and backstroke events. She represented New Zealand, as the youngest swimmer of the team, at the 2000 Summer Olympics, and also formerly played for Takapuna Swim Club under her personal coach and mentor Brett Naylor.
Annamária Kiss is a Hungarian former swimmer, who specialized in backstroke events. She represented Hungary in two editions of the Olympic Games, and also trained for Dunaferr Sports Club under her longtime coach and mentor Erzsébet Tóth.
Nicole Isau Hayes is a retired Palauan swimmer and national record holder, who specialized in sprint freestyle events. Hayes became the first Palauan Olympic swimmer in history when she swam at the 2000 Summer Olympics.
Aleksandr Shilin is a Russian-born Kyrgyzstani former swimmer, who specialized in middle-distance freestyle and sprint backstroke events. He represented his adopted nation Kyrgyzstan at the 2000 Summer Olympics, and posted top-ten times in 50 m backstroke from the European and Russian Swimming Masters.
