Welcome to Fazoland is the debut mixtape by American rapper G Herbo and was released on February 17, 2014. [1] [2] The mixtape has been downloaded over 375,000 times on DatPiff. [3]
Welcome to Fazoland is dedicated to Herb's fallen friend, Fasion “Fazon” Robinson. [4] On a Vlad TV interview Herb says “I got the name of the tape from my homie,” “He passed away. His name is Fazon. We called him Fazo. We named our hood after Fazoland. ‘Welcome To Fazoland,’ I’ma give em where I came from, tell em what's going on out here. It's a really a story, I'm tryna tell a story. Who I am and where I'm from and how I got to where I am right now.” [5]
The mixtape features production from DJ L, J Block Music, Brian "All Day" Miller, Luca Vialli, D. Brooks, C-Stick, Da Internz, Block On Da Track, Nascent, Showtyme, Da Surgeonz, DJ Kenn, Snapback, Honorable C Note, Lewi V and Echo. It features guest appearances from Lil Durk, KD, Young Cocky and Lil Bibby.

Upon its release, Welcome to Fazoland received generally positive reviews from critics.
The Fader commented that, "since drill rose to prominence a few years ago, lyrical bankruptcy has remained one of its most common critiques; Herb’s way with words defies the stereotype." [10]
Mike De Leon of HotNewHipHop rated the mixtape an 85% saying "There's one thing Chicago rappers know how to do, and that's tell the reality of the streets of Chiraq. Lil Herb's talent is unquestionable. Definitely worth a listen, the intro should be enough for you to ask for more. Production could be better." [6]
Trevor Smith of HotNewHipHop gave the mixtape an 82% saying "Herb is a thrilling rapper, and while he can get by on showiness alone, 'Fazoland' finds him letting us in on his story amidst the furious flows. Don't look at him as the Anti-Keef, but rather an exciting new voice in an increasingly diverse scene." [6]
Rose Lilah of HotNewHipHop gave the mixtape a 78%, saying "Lil Herb's debut lives up to its title, as he details stories from the streets of Fazoland, backed by soulful, grimy & somewhat drill-inspired beats. It has peaked my interest, as Herb refreshes the drill sound and finds his own style." [6]
XXL gave the mixtape an L (3/5), saying "Herb does a solid job of taking (...) drill music and adding his own twist to it through his variation of soul-inspired production on the tape and lyrical approach," while also praising the mixtape's "vivid imagery and creativity" and calling it "a vicious curveball." [11]
BET awarded the mixtape four out of five stars, lauding the mixtape's use of "heavy bass, rapid fire snare and the occasional synth to accompany [Herb's] stories of paranoia, drug dealing and constant danger that tend to consume his psyche," while also commenting that Lil Herb, like other Drill artists, has helped "to do for his city what N.W.A did for Compton in the '80s: bringing awareness to what life is like in a city that has spent recent years as one of America's most dangerous places to live." Complex praised Herb's "dexterous" rapping style as well as the mixtape's "titanic drill beats" and "contemporary vitality." [13] The Chicago Reader described Lil Herb as "a fierce, gifted rapper who captures all the intensity, hostility, and emotion of a particular moment in just a few lines, and [who] can do it with such speed that by the time you've unpacked what Herb's said, he's already moved onto the next few grim portraits of his environment." Algernod Lanier Washington, better known by his stage name Plies, is an American rapper. Born in Fort Myers, Florida, Plies was a wide receiver on the Miami Redskins football team of Miami University in Ohio in 1996 and 1997 before beginning his musical career. After dropping out of college, he was signed to Slip-n-Slide Records, he released four studio albums from 2007 until 2010. Plies debuted in 2007 with The Real Testament with successful singles "Shawty" and "Hypnotized". Plies also released two albums in 2008, Definition of Real and Da REAList, and later released Goon Affiliated in 2010.
DeAndre Cortez Way, known professionally as Soulja Boy, is an American rapper and record producer from Atlanta, Georgia. He rose to prominence after his self-released 2007 debut single, "Crank That " peaked the Billboard Hot 100 for seven non-consecutive weeks. After its commercial re-release by Collipark Music, an imprint of Interscope Records, he released the follow-up single "Soulja Girl" in promotion for his debut studio album, Souljaboytellem.com (2007). The album spawned the single "Yahhh!," and peaked at number four on the Billboard 200 despite unfavorable critical reception.
Peter Cory Pankey, Jr., better known by his stage name Cory Gunz, is an American rapper from The Bronx, New York City. He is best known for his guest appearance on Lil Wayne's 2010 single "6 Foot 7 Foot," which peaked at number nine on the Billboard Hot 100 and received septuple platinum certification by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). That same year, he signed to Wayne's Young Money Entertainment, a then-imprint of Cash Money and Universal Republic Records, although he released no major albums under the label. Joshua Howard Luellen, professionally known as Southside, is an American record producer, songwriter and rapper. He gained recognition in the hip hop industry for producing songs for prominent artists across the American hip hop sphere. In 2010, Southside and fellow 1017 label-mate Lex Luger, established their production and songwriting team 808 Mafia, where Southside currently is at the helm of the group. The basis of his stage name is the place where Luellen grew up, Southside, in Atlanta, Georgia.
Kenneth Edward Bailey, better known by his stage name Young Scooter, is an American rapper who is affiliated with Freebandz and 1017 Brick Squad Records and CEO of his own label Black Migo Gang. Young Sinatra: Welcome to Forever is the fourth mixtape by American rapper Logic. It was released as a free online download by Visionary on May 7, 2013 and is the third installment in the Young Sinatra series, following Young Sinatra and Young Sinatra: Undeniable. Brandon George Dickinson, better known by his stage name Lil Bibby, is an American rapper and record executive from Chicago, Illinois. Beginning his career in 2011, Bibby released his debut mixtape, Free Crack in 2013. The project was followed up with two sequels: Free Crack 2 (2014) and Free Crack 3 (2015) before he signed with Dr. Luke's Kemosabe Records, an imprint of RCA Records. However, he released no studio albums under the label. Herbert Randall Wright III, better known by his stage name G Herbo, is an American rapper from Chicago, Illinois. Wright signed to the Chicago-based record label Machine Entertainment Group in 2011 at the age of 16. Through the label, he released his debut mixtape Welcome to Fazoland (2014), followed by Pistol P Project (2014), Ballin Like I'm Kobe (2015), and Strictly 4 My Fans (2016). His debut studio album, Humble Beast (2017) was released through Cinematic Music Group and received critical acclaim. He first garnered a regional following with the release of his Signed to the Streets mixtape series (2013–2014), which led to his signing of a recording contract from Def Jam Recordings. The company would release his debut studio album, Remember My Name (2015) and its follow up, Lil Durk 2X (2016) before he parted ways with the label in 2018.
