Westward Airways was an airline based in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, USA. It was a regional airline operating scheduled services in Nebraska and New Mexico. [1] Westward Airways ceased flight operations on July 25, 2005. [2]
Scottsbluff is a city in Scotts Bluff County, in the western part of the state of Nebraska, in the Great Plains region of the United States. The population was 15,039 at the 2010 census. Scottsbluff is the largest city in the Nebraska Panhandle, and the 13th largest city in Nebraska.

The airline was established in 2002 and started operations on June 1, 2004 with flights on a Scottsbluff - North Platte - Kearney - Lincoln - Omaha route also known as "the river route". [1] On November 30, 2004 a new operation was created in New Mexico linking Albuquerque with Alamogordo, Gallup, Las Cruces, and Taos. In early July 2005 Westward Airways halted services to Alamogordo and three other New Mexico cities, saying it couldn't continue to sustain losses caused by low passenger numbers and insufficient subsidies. As the Albuquerque to Alamogordo route was subsidized under Essential Air Service, the airline was ordered to maintain operating this route. Flights were reinstated for a few more days but operations were stopped altogether on July 25, 2005. [3]
Westward Airways operated services to the following scheduled domestic destinations: Lincoln, North Platte, Omaha, Scottsbluff, and Kearney. On April 5, 2005 new services were initiated at Albuquerque, Alamogordo, Gallup, Las Cruces, and Taos. Services were planned to Phoenix from both Gallup and Las Cruces but these routes never began.

Mesa Airlines, Inc. is an American regional airline based in Phoenix, Arizona. It is an FAA Part 121-certificated air carrier operating under air carrier certificate number MASA036A issued on June 29, 1979. It is a subsidiary of Mesa Air Group and operates flights as American Eagle and United Express via respective code sharing agreements with American Airlines and United Airlines. It serves more than 180 markets in the Western Hemisphere. In a 1997 article from the Journal of Air Transportation, Mesa's safety record was noted as having the fewest incidents among domestic regional airlines At that time. Mesa filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in January 2010, hoping to shed financial obligations for leases on airplanes it no longer needed, and emerged from bankruptcy in March 2011. Since 2013, Mesa has added more aircraft to its fleet than any other regional airline. In November 2017, Mesa opened a new training center in Phoenix. The 23,000-square-foot facility features a full-size CRJ-200 cabin trainer aircraft, 14 classrooms, and has the capacity to train 300 crew members at one time.
Air Midwest, Inc., was a Federal Aviation Administration Part 121 certificated air carrier that operated under air carrier certificate number AMWA510A issued on May 15, 1965. It was headquartered in Wichita, Kansas, United States, and was a subsidiary of Mesa Air Group. Besides initially flying as an independent air carrier, it later operated code sharing feeder flights on behalf of Eastern Air Lines as Eastern Air Midwest Express, on behalf of Trans World Airlines (TWA) as Trans World Express and on behalf of US Airways as US Airways Express. It also operated feeder flights on behalf of Braniff (1983-1990) and Ozark Air Lines in addition to flying for Mesa Airlines. Air Midwest was shut down by its parent company, Mesa Airlines, in June 2008.
Great Lakes Airlines was an American regional airline operating domestic scheduled and charter services. Corporate headquarters were in Cheyenne, Wyoming, with a hub at Denver International Airport.
Central Nebraska Regional Airport is three miles northeast of Grand Island, in Hall County, Nebraska. It is owned by the Hall County Airport Authority. The airport sees two airlines, subsidized by the Essential Air Service program. In 2016 the airport had 68,879 passenger boardings (enplanements), a 6.6% increase from the 64,602 enplanements in 2015. The airport had 7,961 enplanements in calendar year 2008, 20,136 in 2009 and 37,101 in 2010.

Western Nebraska Regional Airport is three miles east of Scottsbluff, in Scotts Bluff County, Nebraska. The airport is owned by the Airport Authority of Scotts Bluff County and is named after William B. Heilig. Known as "Scottsbluff's Mr. Aviation," he was a World War II United States Army Air Force primary flight instructor, a civil flight instructor, and manager of the city's airport.

In December 1985 the Department of Transportation notified GP AIR that its bid to provide Essential Air Service (EAS) service in the Midwest had been accepted, GP AIR subsequently created subsidiary GP Express in order to conduct these operations under 14 CFR Part 135.
